Please fully support the steam deck
This 100%.
Since GOG launched, I've preferred to buy games here, unless Steam had some killer feature I needed, like multiplayer with my non-GOG friends, workshop server mods, etc. Now that I have a Steam Deck, I find myself favoring Steam, or even repurchasing games so they Just Work. I've got Galaxy running in Steam so I have cloud saves, but controller profiles are a bear, and now I'm getting storage issues in the proton container. Come on, help us out!
I'd love to see GOG added to the Steam Deck or at least make installing games purchased from GOG easier to download.
An easy installer for GOG Galaxy on Steam Deck would be awesome.
I agree. I used to buy games evenly on Steam and GOG. Since the Steam Deck was released, if a game is on Steam and GOG, I will always buy the Steam version to reduce Steam Deck shenanigans. Even if the Steam version is more expensive.
I'm adding another agree. I got a Steamdeck recently, and it has become my main camping computer. There are ways to play GOG games, but it's a complicated process that is very user unfriendly (like having to download the Galaxy client by manually typing in the URL), and many games don't work.
Because I'm almost exclusively using my Steamdek for gaming nowadays, I've been playing games I got on Steam almost exclusively.
Making GOG much easier to use with Steam would get me buying games on GOG again, and using GOG again. Now, when I see games on sale on GOG, I ignore it, since I can't be sure I'll be able to actually play it. Not supporting the Steamdeck does not help GOG.
The Steam Deck does support external installers (add them as non-steam games, then remove them and add the game itself), but the process is tedious. What doesn't run that well is the gog client itself as running an application manager under proton/wine is a bad idea in general.
The issue would fix itself if gog simply provided a Linux client, but they do not seem to care. For instance, this was opened back in 2015 (almost 10 years ago): www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy/release_the_gog_galaxy_client_for_linux
For the record, what gog'd need to do to support the deck is to release a native linux client, then leverage proton to run games. Gotta point out: proton is FOSS, which means gog could use and/or modify it without the need to pay Valve a dime.
So yes, this is a gog issue indeed , and they are the only one who can fix it :)
As many have pointed out it is not a GOG issue, it would still be fantastic to have some sort of streamlined installer for GOG games, like there is the EmuDeck for the Steam Deck which streamlines the installation and setup of emulators. At least it is still possible to manually add GOG installer games to Steam and from there set up into gaming mode, though this can get to be a tedious process!
This is not a GOG problem, but Valve. They do not support "external" installers like gog or uconnect.
I bought a steam deck past chrismtmas after long debate on what gaimng handheld to pick. Steam deck is rapsberry standard equivalent, and has a big community.
After the SteramOS fiasco, they worked out a product that can fight windows gaming monopoly, so I support it plenty.
Moreover, when it's just a linux distro, so adding good support for it is adding good linux support.
Not jumping on the wagon because is the "enemy" product, just reduces userbase, as I won't buy here, but in steam.
Worse part: gog games work, you can install them through 3rd party installers… but same as pirate ones… If I want to buy? why not directly in steam?
I'm also switching to a Steam Deck. I'll still get some low end or old games that can run on my main Linux laptop from GOG but for anything with online multiplayer or that needs a more powerful computer, I will likely be buying it on Steam because of how easy it is to run it on Steam Deck that way. I hope Junk Store on Decky adds GOG support soon enough because my GOG library is huge, but installing them manually on SteamOS is a quite a hassle.
No. Fck steam.
Huge pass on this and everyone's a clown for asking to support this instead of supporting Heroic. The SD was designed entirely around Steam and other storefronts have jank support. This is what you get for supporting Valve's hatred for MS.
We need gog on Linux!
French here and same as all of us , stopped buying game from gog , gog tell us linux is good , but no launcher on linux and for the steam deck with 64Gb of HDD , too much of a hassle to use gog game.... sad....
steam deck owner here.. putting my vote in as well
something tells me they made a deal with epic games that forbid them from making a linux client. Their launcher is offered through the EGS and somehow, not long after it was announced GOG officially said they had no intention to support the deck? hmmmm
Technically, I know the Heroic launcher *exist* and do a great work to make all these Good Old Games works on the Steam Deck, but.. I wish for more. I wish for a nice plugin for Deckloader who would let every gog stuff appears in gaming mode even the not installed one, so we could just select and install them without moving to Desktop mode.
I like GOG but I wish it'd be more simple to install their games on the steam deck.
Prepare for Gog OS boys, new hardware incoming...maybe !
This is making me somewhat regret favouring GOG for game purchases for so long… I haven’t bought a SteamDeck yet, but am anticipating it… the benefits in most ways seem to outweigh the drawbacks, and I really don’t see what gets in the way of supporting it.
Since I replaced my old gaming PC with a Steam Deck, there is no going back for me. I have stopped buying from GOG altogether, as it is hit or miss whether the games will play through Lutris, and the steam games are more feasible to run, due to the Windows emulation.
I was more surprised when older GOG games that did not work on Windows 11 anymore work great on the Deck. Lastly, the GOG versions of many games is behind Steam.
I will not buy anything more from GOG, since I am more guaranteed to be able to play them on the Deck if bought from Steam
I find it really odd that people first buy a product from GOG's main competitor and then complain that they aren't 100 fully supporting it.
Screw that, focus on supporting real operating systems; not something as broke as the steam deck.
I've just bought 2 games on Steam again I already own on gog. Because i need cloud support
+1 please i need full support for cloud saves
I am owner of a steam deck and my joy about it is only ovrshadowed by the fact, that I can not conviently use GOG Galaxy including cloud saves on it. I love to support your idea and gave GOG always priority when there was the choice where to purchase my games. Unfortunately the missing Linux launcher is a big miss and truly sad. I first of all can not even to a slightliest point understand, why it is GOG in particular who did not provide a Linux launcher from minute one.. Isn't it exactly your field and expertise to provide the most open and convinient ways to enjoy old and new games?
In big hope for good news about this topic!!
we need this
I bought so many games for the more open and flexible GOG platform, but now it is unfortunately turned around and the most unflexible regarding cloud saves.. That is sooo sad....
PLEASE do a GOG Installer that features Cloud Saves PLEASE
Linux port for GOG-Galaxy please
+1 for GOG Support the Steam Deck.
I'd rather give my money to GOG for the same games given the philosophy but indeed the convenience factor makes it feel a chore when the same game is available directly in Steam even for a bit more money.
GOG Launcher was my go-to gaming platform prior to Steam Deck but more and more feel the tendency to default to Steam after the Deck became my main gaming platform…
Having the SD support It will just make a ton of gamers who'd buy Steam to otherwise come to GOG instead. There's a major opportunity to become the non-Steam platform on the Deck and join forces/replace Lutris/Heroic with a GOG alternative.
Honestly the lack of support for the deck makes me sad, I want to support GOG but I game mainly on the deck because i'm not home enough to play on my PC, many of the games in my GOG Library don't work on the deck without much tinkering and whild ProtonDB has some suggestions that sometimes work, not every suggestion does and even if i've installed all the dependencies, it's not always guaranteed. Even if it were something as simple as a SD Compatible tag or link with steps to get it to work.
Although I understand it is a lot of work, but I can assure you that for the profits you're losing out on from the SD Player base would absolutely make up for it.
+1 if i have a choice where to buy a game gog would be a number one please. Gog galaxy on deck would be perfect
As a new Steam Deck owner I find myself asking if I should buy Baldur's Gate 3 on GOG which I prefer or buy it through steam to save me potential trouble playing it. I don't know how difficult it is to support the SD but GOG is definitely losing money from delaying.
Please do! The Heroic launcher can be unreliable. Example: Star Wars The Force Unleashed on steam is 100% compatible on the deck, but in the GOG version through Heroic all FMVs are audio only with black screen.
I love GOG and have a library of almost 200, but you must understand that for a lazy person not super keen on tinkering like myself, GOG's lack of support not only motivates me to rebuy my GOG games on steam, but also makes me think twice before buying more on GOG, which is a shame. And with an estimated over 1 mil. SD's sold in '22, that's quite a lot of users nudged towards Steam and away from GOG.
Yes please
Since five months ago I have a new job with a looong distance train commute. The Steam Deck was the ideal piece of hardware for that with it's instant-sleep-and-resume feature and form factor.
Even though I'd prefer buying on GOG and me having hundreds of games here... I've basically stopped using GOG for now.
Having full proton support and control presets (that use the touchpads where it makes sense) and good presets in general is just too valuable and convenient.
Well that explains why I can't get GOG Galaxy on the deck. I'd rather give CD Projekt Red my money... because Witcher/Cyberpunk...!
Having just bought a Deck and having sizable libraries in both services, I'd love to see more Linux support on GOG. Doing this would not hurt this company, and anyone that says otherwise doesn't understand how digital collecting works.
Eager to play Veil of Darkness on it =)
This would be what would make me buy it. I don't plan to even have a Steam account, but playing my GOG games on such an impressive piece of hardware sounds awesome.
It's the middle ground between a PC and a console and I hope it's going to be a game changer both for PC gaming and specifically gaming on Linux.
Stop missing the opportunity, GOG.
yes please
My wife exclusively plays games on her steam deck, I'd love to buy her games off GOG instead of steam. I don't need all the cloud stuff just Linux support. Until GOG starts supporting linux I wont even be buying most of my games off GOG as it prevents me from sharing them with her to see if she would like her own copy.
I play a lot on my Steam Deck too. Every launcher works flawlessly under Linux, except for Galaxy which has massive performance problems and spikes the CPU for no reason. This sucks.
I'm not buying games from GOG anymore because I know I can't properly play them under Linux. Please, I'm not even asking for a native client, but look into the performance issues and how to fix them
There's a community group working on the Heroic Games launcher, but without multiplayer, playtime tracking and achievement support I don't see the point
Not likely to make more purchases as well. It doesnt even need to be steam deck support, just linux and proton support
Since picking up a Steam Deck in January 2023, I've more than doubled my Steam library, now over 200 titles, and it's rapidly catching up to my GOG library. As much as DRM-free content distribution would be ideal, the lack of GoG support for Steam Deck has totally dissuaded me from making any further GoG purchases.
Judging by comments in this thread, I'm not alone.
"steam is gog's competitor" no, in this case it literally isn't. Gog does not sell hardware. Gog has nothing to lose by incentivizing people to buy steam decks, because Gog doesn't sell a product to compete with the steam deck. Where gog DOEs compete with steam is in the sale of software, which brings me to my next point:
By NOT supporting it, all the people who are getting into pc gaming for the first time with the steam deck (which is more than you might think) have absolutely zero reason to buy games on GOG. By supporting the deck, GOG could steal a lot of sales from Steam.
I've just bought 2 games on Steam again I already own on gog, because then they work hasslefree. I won't buy anything on gog anymore until they support the Deck. (and I've got 60-70 games on gog right now...)
Honestly, as much as I love GOG and try to support them as much as I can, Ive recently resorted to buyng games in Steam again, precisely because of the Steam Deck support. I dont have much spare time, and the Steam Deck has turned into my go-to for gaming. If GOG let me install an official client in Linux and offered precompiled shaders as Steam does, I'd have no reason to buy in Steam. Please GOG!
I just want to say I give precisely zero fuchs about the Steam Deck. I don't think any effort should be put into it. Also, optimizing games for it is up to the developers, not GOG.
