Jotamide More often than not, people add games that have never seen a PC release on GOG's wishlist (Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger, etc). It would be nice that in order to add a game you had to put a source confirming that the game ACTUALLY EXISTS.

garryg910 Absolutely not! You want to take all the old game runing under emulation away from GOG? That is a mainstay of GOG and was very much a part of what Good Old Games stood for. Mony island runs under SCUMM, I like old and new SHMUPS and don't want to se emulated ones not available.

Don't stop people from wishing. If people want to wish for something the content holder won't release, let them wish. If people want to wish for a game that was never released for PC, let them wish. Hell, if people want to wish for a game that doesn't exist, let them wish.
It hurts no one to have a wish for a game. and who knows, maybe someone might see how many people are wishing for something, and decide to make it happen.
Inferno986return The problem with this wish while I agree with Jotamide and other's frustration is that "impossible" can seem arbitrary and also against free speech in my opinion. Users should be able to request any game they want to be added to GOG.com, whether GOG can or will follow through is a different story of course.
Nintendo could start experimenting with PC like they did with mobile in the next 5 years. Very unlikely, but not impossible.
The Secret of Mana is coming to Steam and I wouldn't be surprised if Square Enix brought another Chrono Trigger remaster out on PC too.
GHOULSLY Getting a large nope from me. Final Fantasy VI has a recent PC release, and Chrono Trigger is possibly coming later this year.

Console games can be played through emulators (in a similar fashion as ScummVM games). This might not happen today or tomorrow, but at some point, console manufacturers of old will get with the times.
I'm pretty sure I could just download games such as 'Chrono Trigger' somewhere and play them for free - and my chances of getting any legal or financial fallout would be pretty much nonexistent. HOWEVER maybe I would much more prefer to get a legal copy and support a studio that way, so they don't have to pump out sub-pars titles in order to stay afloat.

MaximeMartyr We know that the game doesn't exist on PC. That's the point, we express our wish that the game is made available on PC.
If thousands of gamers here wish for a game which doesn't exist on PC, then the developer might consider to make it on PC.

viranimus Time illustrates where this is while well meaning impractical. Specifically look at one of the authors cited examples. Final fantasy 3/6 /eyeroll.
It was certainly a reasonable example when this was drafted in 2012, But time, And SE's compulsion to resell you things you have already bought, has made this no longer a valid example as it is now available on PC.
So I would disagree to this wish, and befittingly enough move that it be removed. Anything is possible tomorrow. It makes no sense to say no based on how things are today.
Besides, the intention was to do something to help keep community wish lists clean. The structure of the wishlist system already effectively does that with good wishes staying at the top and the trash (sadly many of my own wishes included) naturally settling at the bottom. Just sort by "Most Voted (ever)" and stay away from wishes with only 1-5 votes.
Niezborny How about a new status for wishes? A wonderful trio: "in progress", "completed" and "impossibru!" ;)
To be more serious: I saw a wish to add an iOS/Android emulator to GOG. Why not for other platforms? If enough people wish it? Pecunia non olet! :)
C_dog1 Back in the early 1900's, a hand held radio transceiver was the impossible wish of any general or spy. Now, they are down to less than the size of the palm of your hand. Was that an impossible wish? Think of that whenever you use your smartphone, wireless dongle, walkie talkie, etc.
On console only (so far) games; I think they should be tagged as such. Don't separate them, so people will still see them and check them out. Then, if enough votes accumulate, maybe there might be a case to contact developers etc.
I boo console developers who don't have a pc port - they didn't develop the game on a console did they? Last I checked, there were no SDK's usable on a console.

glassedsilver Terrible idea. Also, who are you to say a wish is impossible? If anything a well voted thread gives you leverage to make the impossible possible at times I would assume.
asie SNES emulation does not require distribution of any "BIOS/system" ROMs. All you need is the rights to distribute Chrono Trigger's SNES ROM and couple it with one of the many existing emulators. Same for NES, GB, GBC emulation, and many other platforms. GBA/PS1 emulation benefits from a BIOS, but is not always necessary.

If people didn't wish for the seemingly impossible, I bet a lot of quite possible things woudln't be out there, because they were thought to be impossible before. So... I downvote this.
(Only, don't add a downvote. It's a wishlist, not an unwishlist, and a wish doesn't need arguments. And if there are good reasons against something - as has been pointed out: there are comments, aren't there?)

utaQcee5 I think for transparency, it's good to keep wishes if they are not overtly offensive or duplicates. I do think there should be a downvote so the community can downvote stupid wishes into oblivion. Both upvote count and downvote count should be visible though, not a just of sum of the two. Heavily negative wishes are maybe a lighter shade.
AllurinGirl The Community Wishlist expresses the desires of the community. As such, I think all wishes are welcome. If one disagrees with the wish, they can't ignore it or leave a comment voicing their concerns. Even a seemingly ludicrous wish as requesting Chrono Trigger shows how many people would like being able to purchase a console classic in a DRM-free distribution platform if ever available.
KeyperOS I'd extend this to nonsensical wishes outside of games like all those "add my entire steam library into Galaxy" or "give me gift copies of every game I've ever owned" wishes.
GOG are great at listening to us but there's gotta be a limit to the things asked of them.
If not GOG directly then give us the ability to DOWNvote a wish, although I could easily see this being abused.

_sd I disagree with "impossible" here. Once upon a time, Linux & OS X support was "impossible". Once upon a time, the LucasFilm Games catalog was "impossible". Wait until we have legit licensed emulator wrappers (much as Atari is doing with their 80/100 packs of classic emulated titles), and suddenly older console games can be sold DRM-free on GOG. BTW, Chrono Trigger actually *already* works on all of GOG's supported platforms! It just needs legit emulator/ROM/IP licensing, which, while an enormous legal and logistical task, is absolutely possible. GOG have done it before with more obscure titles, and they can do it again.

jsjrodman Obviously selling emulated games would only be done with the consent of the relevant IP rights holders, so that's not really a worry.

DrTomo I agree, it just clogs up the list of wishes and lets use common sense on the possibility. I have seen stupid ones like Gog should acquire EA or GoG cure cancer.
Also people need to actually use some brain cells regarding console emulation. If Cd Projeckt actually did any "official" work on emulation they would be the target of copy right litigation which is guaranteed to bankrupt them.

SpikedSoul There have been PC releases (official collections) of many old console games, mainly ATARI and C64... (any of you ever played these? so much fun, even the hardware quirks are emulated in some fashion...) so might be possible for other sixth-generation consoles as well...
joppo I see this more as just a case of something being simply out of GOG's scope. Comments below said that "it's not impossible cuz emulators n ports" but IT IS NOT GOG's business to develop either. It's the dev's or IP holder's part. GOG is a store not a game dev.

_ChaosFox_ What bothers me about this "request" is that at least half the votes aren't motivated by features that are wholly impossible, but rather by games that they simply don't want.
You may not want console emulation, but that doesn't make fulfilment impossible by any stretch of the imagination, and it's deceptive and spiteful to claim otherwise.

Rob7713 Rather than removing these completely, put them in a section for "Higly Unlikely to Fulfill". Then, in a sticky at the beginnin/top explain WHY in simple, succinct terms so no one can say that you just don't want to be bothered with "XYZ" game because you don't like it, it is too much trouble, or it is too expensive—unless, of course, that IS why you won't get it. =^_^=
jsjrodman Just because some platforms require roms doesn't make it impossible, just less likely.
Emulation has been tested in court many times. It's entirely acceptable to use reverse engineering to generate software to run such code. The exception would be if running the game at all requires circumventing an anti-piracy measure such as the game content being encrypted with a secret key under DMCA and similar laws.
Luckily, that's both a modern thing (Playstation 3/Xbox 360) era, and it's also not how things actually played out. The cryptography methods are used to prevent running of counterfeit games on the the systems, not to allow the software to validate that the systems are valid.
Meanwhile, there are certainly practical issues with running, eg., Apple IIgs software, as no one has worked out licensing rights for the ROM images they provide, but for the extremely popular platforms like SNES and NES, there are no such problems, and even more modern systems like the Game Boy Advance which features a sizable system ROM, the emulation authors have created work-a-like system roms via reverse engineering that allow 98% of titles to run without any system-provider copyrighted materiel.
The point is that platform by platform the actual situation and barriers vary a great deal, and for a number of popular platforms the barriers are low or near-zero, beyond convincing game rights holders to sell their games here.
ansionnach Releasing emulated non-PC games is different to using DOSBox. The hardware rights owner would also have to consent to the release (not just each game's rights owner). This is obviously true in cases where system BIOS ROMs are and system software are required by the emulator... and may well be the case for all other systems as well. Unless the system is so old as to be abandoned, or GOG can cut a deal with the guys who own the rights to Amiga, for example, this is a non-runner.
For PC ports of games that don't already have them, why should GOG have to do your port begging for you? It can't be encouraging for GOG that most of the time such features are being requested that what is being asked is completely unreasonable or even impossible.
