Grandia II

Grandia II (2000)

by Game Arts, Enix Corporation, Ubi Soft Entertainment
Genres:Role-playing (RPG)
Themes:Fantasy
Game modes:Single player
Story:Grandia 2 is a 3D RPG, viewed from a top-down perspective for most of the game and a 3rd person view during battle. Controlling Ryudo, the player will explore various locations, locating townspeople and objects within an area to interact with. Towns and dungeons are displayed in the same manner, though dungeons tend to be mazes filled with monsters and towns tend to be friendly areas filled instead with conversation and shops. Any monsters present in these areas will be shown walking around. Walking over to and touching the monster in any way will activate a battle. If the monster notices the player approaching it is considered a normal battle, if Ryudo is able to approach undetected the player's party will gain the initiative in battle, if any party member besides Ryudo is approached by the enemy then the party loses initiative.Show more

Originally played this on the Sega Dreamcast, later played the PC remaster a few times, and it was my introduction to the Grandia series. I the battle system, story, characters, humor, music (my god the music!), art, and atmosphere was so good it was just one of those games I couldn't put down and was sad to see the end credits as I wanted more. After later playing the first in the series; this one is a lot shorter with less story and scope which makes it understandable why some prefer the first game, but I still consider it a worthy successor with some notable enhancements in terms of systems and gameplay. Got my girlfriend and anyone else I could to play it, and other than some gripes about the main protagonist being less than likeable in the beginning everyone loved it. It got me to seek out the original game in the series that was amazing, which also has been a formative gaming experience in my life and introduced me to other fans of the series that became friends. We still jam out to a few songs from soundtrack to this day, more than 2 decades from the original release.

I played it a long time ago in the 2000s on PC. It's strange why people vote for it? after all, there was a remaster for it as well as for the 1st part GRANDIA HD Remaster GRANDIA II HD Remaster
A masterpiece. Exciting, Heartwarming, Saddening, Despairing, Betraying, Hopeless, Angering, Redeeming, Uplifting, all of the emotions one could feel from a phenomenally written story that truly leaves a mark in the hearts and minds of all who have played it. I've beat this game so many times, I expect I will end up coming back and replaying this game many more times over the years :) There is around 20-35 hours of gameplay depending how much you like to explore the areas and talk to NPCs. I was pleased just when I would think "aw man, is it over?" NOPE :D TIP: Play on HARD, Normal is pretty much Easy. also, Millenia gang ♥
Those games also need your vote!

Sorcerian
SorcerianSorcerian is a side-scrolling action-RPG. The player can create up to ten characters, from whom up to four members can be present in a party at the same time. Each character is highly customizable, with four different classes/races (fighter, wizard, elf, and dwarf) and over 60 possible jobs/occupations (ranging from clown to exorcist) available for them to perform; each has its own strengths and weaknesses, affecting the seven primary attributes (strength, intelligence, protection, magic resistance, vitality, dexterity, and karma) in different ways, as well as different equipment limitations. The player can choose from fifteen different scenarios, or quests, to play through in the order of their choice. The party must battle enemies and perform tasks within the given levels to clear each scenario, before moving onto another scenario of their choice. The player controls the entire party at the same time, with all four members running in a line, jumping in sequence, and attacking in unison. The party members follow behind in a manner similar to the Options in the arcade shooter Gradius (1985). Sorcerian also employs class-based puzzles, such as using a high-strength character to force open doors. All the characters have a default starting age of 16. Each time a player begins a new scenario, a year passes by, while additional time passes by in towns as a character goes through training or enchants items. The characters age at different rates depending on their race, with humans reaching old age at 60, dwarves at 100, and elves at 200. Upon reaching old age, for every year that passes, a character can die permanently at a random time. There is also an “Advance Time” to speed up the flow of time. Another new feature of Sorcerian was its episodic format that extended across various expansion packs. Besides the default fifteen scenarios that come with the game, there were a number of additional scenario packs released. The aging system was created with the additional scenario packs in mind.
