Jetpack is an excellent single-screen puzzle platformer released by Adept Software (the creators behind Squarez Deluxe and God of Thunder) and was published by Software Creations/Impulse Games (who also published Hexxagon, Hexxagon II and Argo Checkers) in 1993.
Released in the popular shareware model, Jetpack turned out to be the highest selling game for publishers Software Creations/Impulse Games according to the AdeptSoftware website and even had a sequel - Jetpack 2, released in 2017 after a successful Kickstarter campaign. Jetpack had since been released as freeware on the AdeptSoftware website along with their other games and some of the best themes and level packs (including the levels exclusive to Christmas Jetpack which introduced the xmas theme) are still available on the AdeptSoftware website.
As with most shareware of the time, being liked enough to get your potential customers to order the registered version required proving your value for money and Jetpack certainly did that. Containing 100 levels, an included level editor, theme switcher (kid-friendly, normal and later adding an xmas theme), Full Hintbook and Manual.
I loved playing Jetpack when I got a Titanium Seal blister pack containing the game and spent many hours when I was younger, challenging the levels - running from robots, avoiding giant marbles, rockets, robo-bats and other vicious hazards out to stop me, but if i'm honest most of my time was spent letting my imagination run free as I created levels in the editor. It wasn't until I dabbled around in the DOS directory before I discovered the theme switcher opening up the kid-friendly (no blood) and xmas themes to spur me onto making more levels.
I also picked up other Adept Software games, like God of Thunder and and Squarez Deluxe, all of them proving to be well made, fun and worth my time so I say to you - all other games mentioned above are on the Dreamlist, so go vote for them too to preserve them on GOG.
