Supercars International was the third game in the highly regarded series (after Super Cars and Super Cars II) by Magnetic Fields - known also for the Lotus trilogy, Kikstart 1 and 2 and others. Primarily known to the 16-bit computer audience on Amiga and Atari ST, this third title went largely unnoticed as the first and last in the series to be released for PC on MS-DOS.
The prior title, Super Cars II - to which Supercars International could be considered an enhanced edition of the same game - received extremely high praise in gaming publications of the time, with numerous scores in the region of 90%.
To quote 'AL82 Retrogaming Longplays' on YouTube (link to video below), "Perhaps the biggest upgrade Supercars International gets is a 60 Hz refresh rate. This makes the scrolling and general gameplay far more fluid and responsive, and the car handling and driving model is definitely the best of the three games".
I think it's a fair bet to say that a great many fans of the series (tragically) won't even know this 3rd title exists. I myself only discovered it entirely by chance in a bargain-bin when browsing through a high-street store's wares several years after its release. Minimal publicity, coupled with the transition of 16-bit computers to PCs along with the slight name change hide one of the most enjoyable overhead cars-and-weapons racers I've personally ever played.
Works flawlessly in DOSBox.
