What weapon proficiencies are available for bards? The manual says this about bards: "May only become Proficient (one slot) in any weapon class". However, I just recruited Haer'Dalis at level 10 and he has specialization on short swords (two slots). Is this an error in the manual or a bug in the game?

I consider this to be an unusual characteristic of Haer'Dalis. Not every recruitable character follows the rules, and this is one instance in which a rule is broken.

Note that specialization does not grant an extra half attack for non-fighter-types.

Thanks. My PC is a blade and I was already thinking about ways to get specializations for him. You saved me a headache there.

Blades can specialize in some melee weapons due to the nature of the kit. They get a lore penalty and some other stuff to balance it out.
