I seem to be stuck on the stairway outside of the Burning Wizard. Does anyone know how to get past this very annoying NPC?

This NPC seems to be Garrick,
If you've done his quest you can just have him join your party, dismiss Imoen for a few seconds until you have moved him out of the way.
If you didn't do his quest and talking doesn't work you can kill him without loosing reputation or other NPCs getting hostile.
