The kit is considered weak for a reason... and this still probably makes it slightly weaker than standard sorc if prepared. But in a more pure "I have not memorized the game" run I'd take them every time. if:

Give them the shorty bonuses to saves.

And no mod needed. Just roll a halfling fighter, set all saves to 0 and level to 0 in EEKeeper. Set base HP to 0 and current to 1. Remove weapon profs. Level up on entering the new saved game.

Plays into the "tanky" theme mechanics. Is a fitting kind of benefit for someone with dragon blood anyway. And nets you a character with a little less offense, but far greater resistance to spells and a small resistance to melee early on when it's relevant. Immunity to Power Word without having taken some damage. A much better "first run" or "I forget the details" character.

I wonder which game you are talking about?
...? Does it matter? With Tutu or the EEs you have access to all the classes and people generally either play the whole series or 2 and ToB so a huge range of levels are relevant.

It actually does matter. The different games have different monsters, items, and environments - which would have some effect on how the new kits integrate into the game. For example, the cavalier gets +3 thac0 against demons and dragons. There are no dragons in BG1, and I can only think of 3 demons throughout the whole game. It's safe to say this perk is basically useless in the first game. Not so much in the second.
This isn't a monster specific buff.

Is it your contention saves don't matter in BG1 at all?

I find that they are great for saving my progress.
In BG1EE the Dragon Disciple is maybe the most fun and powerful class so there's no need to improve them.
so cheat your way to winning the game is your answer for playing DD?

Far from it. All a DD nets you in BG1 is, at max level... sorc casting, -1 spell per level, 3ac, a once a day breath weapon that's ok, and some fire resist.

You ever try a jester in BG1?

If you're playing a sorc in BG1 you're already cheating. They didn't exist in BG1. It's a primarily single player game also so who cares? And if you want to truly power game you'll play a throwing kensai in BG1 and go K13/M in BG2 or something.

The goal is to bring the kit into alignment power wise with the base class. If you bring up the DD the first comment you'll usually see is "Weaker than base sorc, just play a base sorc."
