I searched the web, but I got conflicting information, so I thought I just ask.

I have the old version of BG1 and BG2 installed with BGT and widescreen mod installed on a new install and it flickers. I tried reinstalling, I tried installing it on another PC and copying the files. I tried to look for hardware-mouse but this isn't the enhanced edition, so there isn't an option for that.

I tried:
set this up in the Nvidia control panel:

Anisptropic filtering: Off
Antialiasing - FXAA: Off
Antialiasing - Gamma correction: On
Antialiasing - Mode: Override any application setting
Antialiasing - Setting: 2x
Antialiasing - Transparancy: Off
Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration: Compatibility performance mode

but nothing seems to work.

Any help?

First, return that setting in NVIDIA Control Panel to it's default value ("Use global setting (Application-controlled)". In fact, if you have a custom profile defined for Baldur's Gate then remove it. The classic edition typically runs best with the default profile. If you do need to change a profile setting, it's best to do that after you've exhausted other troubleshooting options.

Next, let's do some really basic troubleshooting. Will BG2 run without flickering on a completely fresh install with no mods and no changes to any settings? If it does, then the issue is either with your widescreen mod's configuration or some other graphics setting you're adjusting afterward. But if it still flickers, then the problem is going to be with your graphics card and/or monitor settings.

What GeForce model are you using? What screen resolution are you running? And what operating system are you using?

1. I removed the Nvidia settings.
2. I reinstalled BG1 (not enhanced edition) it runs smoothly without any issues.
3. I reinstalled BG2 (no mods, not enhanced edition) it flickers.

Only the menus, the UI and the cursor flickers, the game itself is fine.


Windows 10, it's a laptop, so I haven't touched the monitor settings.

Interestingly this time after the install I got the message that the game will be run in compatibility mode, it still flickers. I removed the compatibility mode to test it, it still flickers. I tried several compatibility settings (windows 95, win xp, win 7 etc) all flicker. I tried the compatibility setting run in 640x480 it still flickers.

Try this...

Open the NVIDIA Control Panel and add a profile for Baldur's Gate 2. I'm assuming you know how to do this since it sounds like you already did so -- but let me know if you need specific steps. Also... I know I told you to delete the profile before. Well... yeah... after a little more research, let's add that back. :-) But I think we need to change a few different settings than you had before.

Make sure you're adding BGMAIN.EXE as the application for the profile. BG2 has several different executables, but that's the main one that actually runs the game.

In this profile, change both Triple Buffering and Vertical Sync to OFF.

Hit Apply and close the control panel.
