This is my first time playing Baldur's Gate, so I apologize if the answer was right in front of me. I seem to be having trouble with the task in which I must find the book for Phlydia, at the beginning of the game. The guy in front of the cow says the book is there in the hay next to the cow, yet there is no hay, nor is there hay next to any of the cows. I then searched around the entire area and found no hay.

Is this a glitch or am I just not looking in the right place?

If I remember correctly, there should be some stacked bales of hay just north of the cow.
It's not a haystack though, so if you're looking for that you won't find it. Just to the north of the cow by the wall is a small hay barn.

You may have to move the mouse across them in order to find where the book is, but it's very close to the cow.

The attached image shows where you should be looking.

Moving clockwise from Phlydia you should easily be able to spot Dreppin, his cow and his haystack, i think there is a house inbetween. Maybe you need to restart or something because if you have talked to Dreppin you should see the haystack (in a wooden stall) directly behind him.

edit [or just check out Mr Andy P's pic will probably make things easier lol]
