I'm currently playing through as a neutral good fighter/thief halfling. My current part consists of Viconia, Garric and Neera. My final companion is going to be Alora when I finally reach Baldur's Gate. But I cant decide on who would make a good choice to be my final companion. I've looked through the companion guides and i just cant decide. I think maybe another front line fighter to go along with me and Viconia but I'm not sure who would be a good choice, doesn't have to be someone to help in the front line. Who do you think would complement my party set up.

Please don't request anyone who comes as a couple as i don't want to have to kill and remove people just to get one person to stay so people like Minsc or Khalid and Jahira are not an option. I could maybe see taking Skie and arranging for Eldoth to have an accident before I pick up Alora but then I think I would have far to many thieves.

So you got:

NG F/Thief
NE Cleric Viconia
CN Bard Garrick
CN Wild Mage Neera
CG Thief Alora

Alignment-wise, your group doesn't seem to be good or evil, just random, with perhaps a lean towards good?

Hard to pick a sixth for you without knowing your playstyle or experience with BG.

Generally speaking, BG1 tends to favor Warriors, while BG2 tends to favor Wizards... while experienced players can do well in either game with any party arrangement.

If you're inexperienced with BG, I would recommend adding a Warrior, as you alluded to. Shar-Teel or Kagain if you have a leaning towards "evil". Otherwise there are several "good" Warriors as options.

You got two arcane spellcasters with Garrick and Neera, so you probably wouldn't want another Wizard. And you got three Rogues already too, so I would say no more Thieves. And Faldorn's Druid spells would compliment Viconia's Cleric spells, but I don't think Druid spellpower got a whole lotta love in BG1.

If you're experienced with BG and If you're looking to go non-standard, perhaps Quayle's varied spellcasting would be fun to try.

Let us know what you pick!
Coran is the obvious choice imo
As a fighter thief he feels better suited for dynamic
He can wear fighter armour and stand on the front line but with 20 base Dec and a long bow (magic arrow) he cleans house

Well I went fighter/thief because I don't really think there is a good thief option in BG2. I play him as more a fighter who is able to pick locks and disarm traps. And I never really use stealth on thieves or backstabs (mainly because I always forget). I'm not great at the game but I have been playing on and off for 20 years. I've never actually beaten the game though I have made it to the final boss before, and that is where one of my greatest gaming memories is. on the final screen before you go into the final boss room I triggered a whole horde of enemy's and quickly created a front line for tanks and had my thief in the back firing arrows and a couple spell caters flinging spells, that felt so epic using actual tactics and planning.

I usually play on normal mode because I'm not super bothered about a challenge and normally lean towards a good playthrough. Viconia is there because I plan on getting her in BG2 (it will be either Viconia or Aerie I romance), Neera is to experience the new character. For some reason I've always liked Garricks voice barks (I really wish I knew how to make his voice files a choice for the MC in BG2) so I just enjoy taking him along. I normally always take the "cannon" Party, and when I don't I nearly always take Imoin since you get her right at the start and can build the thief you want, so this time I'm trying to mix it up and since I don't need her myself being a thief I wanted to try Alora since I have never taken always having had Imoin. ( may make a save so I can play abit with Eldoth and Skie after I finish the run with Alora)

I'm more of a direct attacker focusing on offensive spells and healing rather than buffing (mainly because I don't know the encounters well enough to know when I need to pre buff or even what buffs i should use) so I normally end up brute forcing my way through the fights even if it means I have to reload a couple of times.

Edit: Also I have only just reached the town of Naskel and kicked of chapter 2 and killed the assassin from the in at the very start so I pretty much have freedom to go where ever at the moment.

Sir-Sparhawk.: (I really wish I knew how to make his voice files a choice for the MC in BG2)
I was about to post a quick instruction on how to do this - it's quite simple - but a quick google search yielded this:
https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/82008/graions-soundsets-for-bg-sod-bg2-iwd-eet-ee-2-6-last-update-2022-02-19
Look for "Baldur's Gate NPC Voice Pack" - sounds like what you need.
Or you can download the NearInfinity tool and do this yourself:
- expand WAV tab in NearInfinity, look for files starting with GARRK. These are voice files for Garrick
- export these files "as WAV" to your computer
- rename them to format MALExxxx, where the first three x's should be 004 or 005 or 006 etc depending on how many voice sets already exist in your game - if you already have three voice sets in the game these files should be 004, unless you intend to override an existing voice set. The last x goes from a, b, c etc to z. BG1 voice sets have fewer lines so they don't make use of all of these letters. But BG2 voice sets have more, so they do make sure of all the letters, as well as a few numbers from 0 to 9 (so there will be files such as MALE0050, MALE 0051, etc)
- you can view the naming convention for the last 'x' in the file SNDSLOT.IDS in the IDS tab in NearInfinity. For example: 0 is Initial Meeting, 1 is Morale Broken, 2 is Happy, 26 is Selection 1, 27 is Selection 2, etc. So for example: MALE0059 is the Battle Cry sound for the voice set #5 in Character Creation. You can more or less figure out this convention by checking out existing voice sets.
- once you're done renaming all these files, put them all in a folder named "sounds" in \Documents\BG2EE\. For the original games this folder is also in the game folder.
I dig your playstyle, trying to mix it up and not power-gaming.

I think you'll really like Viconia in BG2 and be happy that you used her throughout the whole Saga. But in BG1, I think you'll need to watch that your Reputation doesn't get too high, lest she leaves. Also avoid having Adjantis and Kivan in your party, as I don't think Vic gets along with either of these two.

My experience with BG1 was that there was more than enough Experience Points to go around. In my playthrough, my "canon" party had all their Experience/Levels maxed out shortly after entering the city of Baldur's Gate.

So, I would say try using a few options as your sixth and see who you like the best.

As ussnorway mentioned, Coran is never a bad choice, as he is like a power-game character with his three Proficiency Points in Bows, which is a special (cheat) with him, as this is normally not possible with Fighter/Thieves. As I previously mentioned, Quayle gives more spellcasting and healing options, but this might be mixing it up too far, as I think you'll be better off with a Warrior frontliner. Yeslick can frontline and complement Viconia's Priest spells and even encourage experimenting with Priest spell buffs (especially on himself).

Lots of options. Look forward to hearing how your game goes!
