Having some really bad issues with this game on 1.6, it's become unplayable because after 10-30 minutes it always freezes the PC completely and only disconnecting it or holding the power button helps.
My system is a mobile HM87 board with i7 4940MX CPU, GTX 965M GPU and 8GB of DDR3, which is pretty low-end nowadays but CP2077 is playable on low settings. The game is installed on a Hynix M2 SSD, there's also a 16GB paging file on it. Cooling is good enough, temps rarely go above 70 celsius.
With an issue like that, I'd suspect it's something wrong with the system and not the game, but everything seems to point that it's not the case. I ran a power stress test in OCCT (which is a way heavier load for all the components than CP2077) for 30 minutes and nothing happened, no freezes or crashes. I tested other demanding games (DOOM Eternal, Horizon Zero Dawn) and didn't encounter any issues, they ran completely fine for hours. Reinstalling drivers and stuff never helped, the game freezes and crashes constantly even on a fresh Windows 11 installation.
What is probably worth noting is that I often encounter minor graphics bugs in CP2077, such as glitchy textures and pop-ins. The freezes also seem to happen when something happens in the game (such as picking up an item or slowing down time with cyberware). Other than that I had an issue with it crashing on startup before and removing the integrated audio driver helped (I don't need it anyway since I use a USB DAC). Any ideas what can I try at this point?

Its the game. I am running an RTX 3090 and every time I try to play/stream it crashes around 20 min.
Check your windows virtual memory, minimum should be = to GPU memory amount. Let me know...
Hello,

Since update to 1.6, the game freeze when I go the menu, or tab, of inventory, to resume, if I want to show the map, or save the game, or check the inventory, freeeeeeze for a long time (well, when you play, it's long), freeze about 2/3 minutes sometimes...
The problem is progressive, the firsts minutes, no freeze, but about 10 minutes or 1 hour, the game freeze in each menu, the only one solution, stop the game, and reboot (yes, I must reboot if I wants to play without a freeze).

Some cinematic ingame freeze too!

I don't know if I downgrade the version my savegame will be compatible.

Just another bug of freeze on the 1.6 version.

Have a good day in Night City!
Even worse are the fake reviews from people pretending this game isn't still in a state of Early Access.

We get it, you're pissed off because the game still has bugs. You don't need to comment on every single thread stating those of us who enjoy the game are some sort of poseurs. Because while some of us admit the game still needs work, it is, in fact, very playable for us.

so i have 12gb 6700xt

I should set it to 12x1024 = 12,288

how bout maxiumum?
Mine started to freeze now. I was playing it without big issues until yesterday, then, today, it started to freeze in the middle of a fight. I just open the game and this shit froze. I think I have to avoid this fight, because this is what the game freeze.
I'm just fighting a cyberpsyco and it freezes. I can rear the sounds of the city although. Really annoying this shit.

I've had the same issues on release day years ago. Nobody believed me, except those (statistically speaking, few, probably) that had the same issues. People that don't get these issues can't relate or understand, therefore most won't believe, either. Game works for them and their friends, so clearly anyone who states otherwise is just shitposting or review bombing. That's how that goes, sadly.

Between system freezes, crashes and BSODs, I've got like, over 500h in Cyberpunk and I'm mighty pissed about the state of it. So much so that I completed everything I could back then and never touched it again out of fear that the next BSOD is going to fuck up my Windows. Why slog through 500+h of that, though? Because I was hyped into preorder, WANTED to force myself to enjoy at first, and later also force myself into never forgetting what the hype and preorder got me, to learn never to preorder anything again.

As to now, I was kinda hoping that maybe by now, playing it is not endangering my hardware anymore. These reports make me reconsider. If I'm going to give it another try, I'm certainly making sure I'm closing everything that might corrupt due to a system crash first... which is not the mindset you want your customers to have about your products.

I think these kinds of hard crashes, requiring you to literally pull the plug on your otherwise perfectly fine system, are not going to be found and patched. Way too weird and exotic to diagnose, let alone debug (they'd need an affected system for that) and minority too, on top of all things. But something fundamental is awry somewhere in the engines codebase, probably to do with drivers API, something deep. Most systems are good with it, but plenty just aren't.

As for something more productive, back then most of these freezes did eventually recover if you waited like, I think it was two full minutes after hitting the key combo for task manager. I'll have to look it up again though. But point being, a lot of these freezes made you think the system's gone, but it was still recoverable. Lessening the chances of file system damage, at least.

I have this gut feeling that on patch 1.6 they improved game performances relying on supposely very common SSDs. It's like when you copy very large files but the I/O buffer can't keep up and eventually the transfer speed drops to 0 until the buffer is empty. It happens often with USB drives, for example.

Since your machine appears to be very old and underpowered, I suppose it runs on a basic HDD. In addition to this, 8GB of RAM for a 64bit machine is way way way too low, regardless of the age of your pc. Constantly swapping huge assets from the drive might lead to this issue, and while a file copy might resume after a while, the game engine just hangs for good.

Is getting/trying an SSD on your machine something viable? Or you could try to upgrade your ram to 16GB.

Yeah, I know, it might be too much of an hassle to buy new hardware to play cyberpunk, but honestly it looks like a little miracle you are able to make it run in the first place.
