I am not sure what worked for me, but after doing these things the game has not crashed once. Been playing for hours.

1. deleted the game installation folder
2. updated geforce drivers 460.79, set Prefer maximum performance in Nvidia control panel
3. added exclusion to my anti-virus for the entire Cyberpunk 2077 folder (Kaspersky)
4. installed all Windows updates
5. re-downloaded/installed the game

Windows 10 Pro 64 bit, Version 20H2, Build 19042.685
CPU: AMD FX-8170
GPU: MSI 1080
Running the game on Quick Preset: Ultra, about 33-40 FPS in crowded city. 2560x1440

Hope it helps someone.

SO Your are saying that i must re download the game? ! shut up! no way!
In my case it was a conflict between the video cards!!
My GeForce card was not starting the game, but the onbord was.

If you have NVIDIA Geforce:

Please go to NVIDIA Control Panel and there to Manage 3D settings. You should be able to select the NVIDIA card as the preferred device. If this will not help to run the game please create a custom profile for the game to use GeForce as preferred device.
(Or play with GeForce Experience!!)

If you have AMD Radeon:

Please go to Catalyst Control Center -> Power -> Switchable graphics. You should be able to select High Performance for the game - this should make it use the Radeon card. If this will not help to run the game please create a custom profile for the game to use Radeon as preferred device.
Alternatively, please go to AMD Radeon Settings - > Preferences - > Radeon Additional Settings - > Switchable Graphics Application Settings.
