With 2020 coming to a close it is as always considered tradition to look back and give 2020 some thought. Some enjoy reliving the year, others looking for closure and maybe even some who want and try try to make 2021 something different based on what they did in 2020. As GoG asks politely of its users to keep the general forum's topic's at least a bit related to their ' thing ' which is gaming i wanted to know how your game year went, and i wanted it to be kept exclusive for titles released this year. Year one Editions do count as released in this year btw for the sake of, you know , sanity or something.

Different formats are more then welcome.

My year started with the release of Pax Nova. Iceberg is known for its technical games for a specific part of the community. There seems always some risk involved into buying into their games and that is exactly what this game has been for me. During its early access stage i gave it some time as well as with its release but to me the game is a boring mediocre try bound with unfulfilled promises but in accordance with its asking price
Astra Exodus is another one of those games that really did not make an impression. Also a SF 4x. Its idea's are actually pretty amazing and i'm sure that a lot of people had fun with this one but to me it just feels like a big no.

Mortal Glory is a little indie try at tactical arena combat which i did enjoy, at least more then the 2 4x games. Trying to appease the King you are battling your way to the top. With different races, types and equipment this one deserves at least a nice casual plus rating.

After Mortal Glory there was, Kingdom under Fire, Bright Memory and Xcom : Chimera Squad.... So far all of the games mentioned could be considered as " games i bought but could really have saved money on ! "

This does change a bit with the next set of games. With the release of Othercide i know i was buying into a game i would probably not play a lot but as an excuse these sorts always seem like games i want to play. Both Othercide and Mortal Shell carry the designation ' difficult ' and that is exactly how i perceive them to be. Othercide being this otherworldly beauty of tactics and puzzling and Mortall Shell as a eternal struggle against the dark powers that reign deep within. With the extra added value of art and a sense of devotion i can only hope at a certain point in the future both of these games will add to my overall game enjoyment.

Now with almost 6 months passed it seems like i'm finally regaining senses and go full throttle with the last set of purchases namely, Star Renegades, Star Wars Squadrons, Phoenix Point Year one Edition, Per Aspera, Cyberpunk 2077 and Airborne Kingdom. These games delivered, will deliver and can be considered as great additions to my life.

Shadow Empire is probably my most interesting purchase of this year. If this moloch will ever receive its turn time optimizations it is certain to be one of the most interesting 4x releases since Centauri :-p

There is one game i did not mention, it is downloading as we speak.... Total War Troy.... gifted at release to celebrate the new collaboration between SEGA/CA and EPIC and well, lets say, if they ever manage to fix their a.i. problems this is a nice one

So there you have it, i will leave some extra grains of salt. Feel free to insert those anywhere you like.

A prosperous 2021 !

greets Rad
There's only one game I've played that got released this year: GemCraft - Frostborn Wrath. Unfortunately I never finished my playthrough. It got boring due to shallow game mechanics and lack of balance.
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 - A very faithful remaster. Everything is redone from the ground up, but I think it still plays just like the originals did. Nearly everything of its amazing soundtrack made it into the remasters too. I had a ton of fun with this one, and there's a lot of challenges and unlocks added in here. The track creator should give it a lot of extra life as well.

DiRT 5 - I ordered this along with the Xbox Series X. Nice game, flashy graphics.. It's not quite as good as the previous ones, but I had a lot of fun with it still. I just wish there were more proper rally courses and less of the "big, slow 4WD car" courses.

Cyberpunk 2077 - Bought it, played for three days, then sold it.

Yakuza: Like A Dragon - This is hands down my GOTY. The story is great, and the semi-realtime JRPG combat is really intuitive and well done here. The signature humor of the Yakuza-games is here too of course. There is a lot of talking in this game, but here I don't mind. The story, likable characters and banter makes it all so enjoyable.

I'm very much looking forward to playing the Final Fantasy VII Remake when the Playstation exclusivity ends.
2020 has been a very good year for games for me.

Finally got Creeper World 4, which builds nicely on the previous games in the series, and is really fun to play.

There was the 1.0 release of the fantastic Factorio, but in the same genre we had the alpha of the wonderful Satisfactory. There was the release of Shapez.io which strips down the genre to the most basic components and just focus on the gameplay, making a very addictive game. Related to this, was also Mindustry, fusing the factory games and tower defense, again making a very addictie game. There is also the very ambitious Craftopia, though it is in alpha, merging open world survival, hack-n-slash RPG, farming, crafting etc, all with a Japanese slant.

Journey to the savage planet turned out to be a surprisingly fun and clever game, and the best metroidvania game I have played in a long time, even though it was in first person. SUPERHOT: MIND CONTROL DELETE, again a sequel that builds on the original, adding more variation to the mix of the already fantastic gun play.

Hades was released, as well as Risk of Rain 2 and Spelunky 2, all contenders to the inde crown this year (though it is CW4 that takes it...) . But there has also been many other really good indie games as well, such as A Short Hike and There Is No Game: Wrong Dimension.

What I have been missing this year, though, is RPG's. I found The Outer Worlds to be fun, and will probably do another run with a different build shortly, probably after the nest expansion. But the RPG's I have been playing is Outwards, WoW: Classic and Skyrim: SE, all from last year and older.

In addtion, 2020 has also brought some games I have not bouhgt yet, but I intend to do when I can play them. For example, I would like to experience Cyberpunk 2077. And I need Borderlands 3 to complete the series, but waiting for a complete edition.

I had a lot of time for games due to covid situation. At the beginning I was finishing my first play through of Witcher 3, which is a great game, so I bough season pass and read all books. On September 2019 I exchanged my integrated graphics (HD 4600) for RX 5700, so Witcher and later Deus Ex MD showed, me that driver was in alpha version, luckily it improved during year and in the Autumn my GPU became well usable (15 months after release).

In March I finally purchased Final Liberation, but game is unplayable on my configuration, not sure how to fix it. After Witcher 3 I played for the first time also its predecessor, but both games are extremely simple in comparison to the W3. Another important thing happened in may when I purchased Blade Runner. It is fantastic game, very atmospheric, but in my opinion much better in comparison to movie. I finished it two times and saw three different endings!

In July I bought Original War immediately when it was released, so far looking for playing it, unfortunately it stays in backlog – I always had mood for different genre. In summer I was very disappointed with Shadow Warrior 2, which I got during GOG anniversary. Although I love original SW, this remake has nothing similar with it, except for name. Later I tried Life is Strange + Before the Storm. In past I read great things about both games, but at the end both games are mediocre, you can make a lot of choices which have no impact at the end. I felt cheated by these games.

With October my mood changed and I tried Metro 2033 Redux, which is very linear, but good for relax. After Metro I fought with Jazz 2 – Christmas Chronicles, still that original Jazz is better in my opinion. Problem of Jazz 2 is bad control when I stuck on pixel perfect jumps. When I tried Thief 3 with Environmental Audio Extension enabled I was astonished, this game is better then what reviews of this game tell. I do not want to compare it to original Thief 1 + 2, but to something else, since Thief 3 do things on its own. It is different and I enjoyed it a lot.

When Silent Hill 4 was released here, I was glad, but waited if there will be some patch, since people in forum had some objections… In November I played it as my first Silent Hill. Game atmosphere is great, best is sound system where you can enjoy extraordinary stereo. I always felt like I am in danger in this game, although at the end I must say, that it is not so hard.

Now I made exception from playing one game at the time, so I am close to end in Shadow Tactics and Dark Forces 2. Shadow Tactics reminds Commandos, but it has different feeling, I like Commandos more. I had problem with extremely easy first half of the game and harder second half, when I for the first time discover some game mechanics which can be used since the beginning… Also badges, which could make game more difficult, but appear after you successfully finish level are not a good idea. In my opinion, badges should be mandatory and known since the beginning.

Dark Forces 2 as close to vanilla experience as possible is also not so good. Game itself is good, but jumping sequences and Jedi fights are hell due to bad control. Luckily when I finish with it I will fulfill my mood for AoE: Rise of Rome, although it is not possible buy it on gog, so I bought SW: Galactic Battleground and after that Hexen + Heretic collection awaits for me.

Sakura Wars was the main game actually released this year that I enjoyed along with Immortals Fenyx Rising. I bought other games but I have not really played them, that would include the Trials of Mana remake and Nioh 2. Personally, I liked Sakura Wars the best but Fenyx Rising has been fantastic as well.

Sakura Wars is basically like the Sakura Wars games as a social/dating sim combined with action stages instead of the TRPG stages from the older games. All the characters are fun and the writing is very entertaining. The game looks really good and the mech designs are some of my favorites as well as very good designs on the characters as well.

Fenyx Rising is the surprise of the year for me since I only remembered that it was a thing after Nintendo reminded me of its release (unfortunately for them I got it on Xbox). I did not actually know it was like Breath of the Wild until it I looked up gameplay trying to see how it played across platforms. All I remembered was that it was Greek mythology themed. Playing like BotW is an excellent thing and while it is not quite with BotW it does more than enough to differentiate itself from its obvious inspiration to make it worth trying on its own merits.

Writing this I remembered the Langrisser remakes also came out and while I am near certain that it's a rerelease of a mobile game those were also great games.
I've played a lot of good games from Greedfall, to DOOM Eternal, to Cyberpunk 2077, to Horizon Zero Dawn, Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness and Among Us. It's been a great year for indie games and AAA releases for me. I am looking forward to CP2077 improving, for certain.
I ended 58 games this year that were brand never games I never played before. The best games that I really enjoyed were Hellpoint, Streets of Rage 4, Zombie Army 4 and Shadow Warrior 2.

Currently, I have no backlog but I got a bunch of games gifted to me but the great majority of them are short SP games. MP wise, I still playing older games with my friends and nothing seems to be coming out that we want to get into. Going to be taking a break from buying games for a while til something pops up.
I was doing fine until half-way through the year I installed FGO (a F2P Japanese game) on my tablet. Since then I only beat a few. Current at 48 games finished, I should be able to finish one more as early as tonight (I think I'm pretty close to the end of Lords of the Fallen.) My best accomplishment is actually getting back to a big game I had on hold and finishing it (Prey 2017, though it was only on hold for a bit over a year.)

As shit as this year was otherwise, in gaming terms it was superb! Probably the one thing that helped me hold on to what little sanity I had left. =/ That aside... release year doesn't matter to me. It's all about the first time I've played a game. ;)

Had a grand old time with the likes of Ys VIII, Trails of Cold Steel 3, Metro Exodus, Control, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Heretic, The Evil Withinsssss, Alwa's Legacy & Awakening, Ara Fell, Bug Fables, The Talos Principle, Creeper World 4, Rebel Galaxy Outlaw, Phoenix Point.... and the list goes on!

A worthy shoutout also go to Hatsune Miku: Project Diva MegaMix (best rhythm game I've played in a loooong time), Mario's Super Picross, and Mario 3D All-Stars (technically cheating because I've played all those Marios before, but not on this system ;)) on my Switch. Good times! :)

I am necroing this but I think it's not so old and still a valid topic to talk about. I usually play older games on sale so I don't play many games at release, but VirtuaVerse and BEAUTIFUL DESOLATION have been two very good point and click adventures of 2020 I had the chance to play. I'm very happy as it's a genre I want to love but too often disappointing.

https://www.gog.com/game/beautiful_desolation

Creepy Tale, a little adventure with some minimalistic stealth and magic. I have played it twice and I'm waiting for the next game of this promising studio

The White Door did that Rusty Lake thing but with a different touch

Anything else I've played is at least from 2019, except the Blasphemous DLC but I didn't go far with it.
And some demos from 2020 I liked a lot:
Carrion, Vagrus, Circle of Pain.
INMOST and Creeks are two other 2020 games in my wishlist I can't wait to play!
