Green_Hilltop: GOG doesn't accept games where you have to pay a subscription to play.

noteversober: From what other players and I can gather, the current owners are either bankrupt or approaching it because they have let their website and some other licensing lapse, as well as the server being down for months now.

It is not playble currently.

My idea (hope) was to get GOG to purchase the original IP, which cannot be worth all that much as it currently stands, and then to sell the game at a flat price.
Ah. Right.

Well, I remember reading an article about this game here on Atlas Obscura that details how the author was trying to contact the IP holders of the game and it leads to a dead end as the current IP holder doesn't respond to enquiries. Maybe GOG might have more success but the problem is that this is an MMO and GOG doesn't do MMOs, since there's no single-player and without running a server it'd play on you can't play the game on its own (as far as I know).

Yeah, you're on point.

There are former players on the forum that are toying with the idea of:

A.) Working to make a single player version of the game.
B.) Figuring out a way to set up free/private servers.

Option B is how I envision GOGs approach to it because you're right, GOG doesn't do MMOs and I couldn't see them running anything server side or anything like that.

My ideal (and probably outlandish) hope on top of GOG acquiring the IP and then selling for a flat fee would be for it to then operate a lot like how Minecraft does with independently run servers for the players to operate and utilize to then play together, although I could be out of my mind. I just know that this game is a great product and with a passionate community behind it, so I feel as though it could do very well in that kind of scenario if it's feasible.
