Seems to be better now, but I was having a hell of a time using the site for the last few hours.

blotunga: GOG just posted on facebook that their infrastructure is being hammered by DDoS.
Ironically, probably perpetrated using a botnet composed of the compromised Internet-connected Win XP machines of people who complain that GOG no longer supports XP. :P
So someone mixed the sewage out with the gas in pipe. Happened before, killed off the rats and chain smokers at least.

That seemed to be the problem. When I ran a traceroute earlier this morning, it was lagging out at a set of defense.net IPs, which is apparently a DDoS protection service offered by F5 Networks that GOG employs for this site.

Wha......GOG no longer supports WinXP?!?

Well, at least they still support good old Win98SE.....right......RIGHT?!?
It wasn't even opening here until about an hour or so ago. So, I'm glad it's back.
Seems to have cleared up now. Guess my GOG forum addiction will get its fix today after all...

They've quietly stopped supporting XP and Vista (which is now, like XP, no longer supported by Microsoft) for games newly added to GOG. Games which had XP or Vista support before should still have it, though, until and unless they're altered/updated significantly enough to require re-testing, I suppose.

EDIT: As to the other bit -- there's always the wishlist entry. Just a few more votes, and they won't be able to ignore the popular demand!

Please tell me they'll support windows 3.1 for the next 10 years, please!

While I was initially kidding with my post, I must admit I am indeed a bit shocked and saddened that GOG seems to be dropping OS support for more modern OSs(Vista isn't THAT OLD, after all....or is it?).

I Imagine the demand there must be for 16-bit installers must be nearly as big.
Thought it was just me, thanks for the heads up! :)

Ten years old. Official support ended this April. Plus it was a horrendously unpopular edition of Windows. I don't even recall seeing a single person complaining about GOG no longer supporting Vista in new releases. :P

Also: I see you edited a divider into my quoted post, so I edited a new custom one into yours. ;D

Ten? Is that all? That's barely old enough to drink where I come from....*hic*

And yeah, it might've been unpopular, but that doesn't mean those using it should miss out on all the GOGgy goodness. Heck, that would leave just Win7/8/10 as officially supported windows versions on GOG, and who uses 8/10 anyways? Mimes, carnies, and all manner of no-good-nicks, that's who.

XD

Pay me no mind. I merely add in dividers to order my replies by post segment and to save time vs. making each post segment a seperate reply.
