Around when gog first started they had icons that were the boxart of the original game, I thought it was a good idea in particular when you view them at larger sizes. Here is an example for a reminder, look at Duke Nukem 3D

It would be cool if they brought it back or as an additional option during install.

The icon doesn't look like that for me but it doesn't look exactly like the box art either. Yours looks more like what happens when Windows can't find an icon at all.

try rebuilding your icon cache, its a known issue with win 7 from time to time.

What the OP is referring to is that all GOG icons now look like in the screenshot attached to my post. Anyway, simple answer: corporate design. Basic requirement on the way of becoming a Cyberpunk-level evil corporation. ;)
