It was probably one of the first 3D RTS games and channeled some authentic 90s design. In short, you controlled weird non-humanoid aliens fighting humans on a desert planet.
I noticed the game is quite poorly known, took me months to find some images (and even the title), having only tiny scraps of childhood memories to go from. Most of the time i just bumped into much more widely known Sacrifice or Evolva.
Dominant Species was made by Red Storm, future authors of Rainbow Six series (who would've thought). It was, in fact, their very first game. Here's some recent footage with comments from one of the original devs, who we can thank for preserving this quaint piece of pc gaming history: https://youtu.be/b_haYppFRbg
I was very thrilled to finally find this game. Would love to play it again, it even appears to be running quite well on a modern pc, but unfortunately it's nowhere to be found digitally. Can only hope one day it appears on GOG.
