my last two laptops were lenovos (both mid range gaming laptops) and they were both great, though i did have to rma my second one because of a power issue. but the rma resolved everything.

loki1985: first of all, the quality products from Lenovo (formerly IBM) are the T series, the W series, and the X series ThinkPads.
you can ignore the rest.

these are business notebooks, so not made for gaming. I have an X230, you can basically play anything from before 2010 on there, not really suited for anything newer.

and price, well they are expensive. really expensive. X260 with good configuration starts at 1800 euros in europe.
this is definitely not budget hardware.

/EDIT: you can do a bit more gaming with the W series with integrated discrete graphics, these notebooks are not very portable though, quite heavy and use a lot of power.
i have an x230 i use for work every day. it's my workhorse. i've actually refused my last two bi-yearly company wide upgrades because i like it so much. that said, this thing is a terrible gaming unit.

GR00T: Where my wife works, they have Lenovo units and they're pretty much universally hated there.
Everyone hates them where I work too, but that's mostly because the people in my office are helpless and have been trying for decades to figure out how a windows file system works. Basically, you could give them any computer in the world and they'd hate it all the same, because they don't realize the problem is them.

Almost every laptop manufacturer makes laptops with a wide range of different quality levels depending on price point. Asking whether manufacturer X's laptops are good quality isn't a sensible question.

It's like asking whether VW Group's vehicles are luxurious without specifying whether you're considering a SEAT or a Bentley.

Lenovo are the second biggest laptop manufacturer in the world (After HP) and are typically in the top 3 in most European/North American countries so plenty of people clearly buy them and are happy enough not to be put off future purchases or warn away their friends.

The G-series is one of their budget ranges, as you'd expect from a laptop that spends lots of money on it's computing components with little left over for other bits. The better question is not whether it's top quality - at that price it clearly isn't - but whether it's substantially worse than competing laptops.

I usually go to notebookcheck for reviews. They can be a bit funny about screen resolution but they're pretty good in other areas. Their review of the G50-80 is pretty positive for a budget machine.
I read this as Denuvo laptop.

it has to authenticate with the company's back-end server before it will even POST

Epitaph666: Thanks for all the input!

Well i saw a laptop with good specs, which are the following :

i7 5500U
4GB Ram
15.6'' Screen
AMD RADEON R5 M330 2GB
1 TB HDD @ 5.400RPM
W10

for 508 euro.

It's a G50-80.
Do they have shitty keyboards or something shitty? It's a pretty good price to be true...

Obviously it's not headed for gaming. Mostly surfing, music, a few light applications and maybe a 720p movie.

What do you think?
Not bad specs, what's your budget for laptop?

Well the laptop is not for me, but for a middle-aged man. He said he didn't want to pay over 550 euro.
As for me i'm a firm believer of "get enough money to buy something good or don't buy anything".
Not "overkill good" like a GTX 1070, but decent stuff like a 480 or a 950Ti....

But not all people are like that and i don't wanna get into arguments with them about it to change their mind.
He's also still sporting a 14-15 year old laptop with a square screen which sucks badly even on Windows XP. His screen has started showing strange artifacts when his laptop gets warmed up, and it's altogether a horrifyiing experience (to me at least, coming from a Desktop with SSDs and 12GBs of RAM...).
So even with not flawless display i think he'll be much happier than what he is now!

Well, at least i hope so.
Turns out i should've done more research cause he already ordered it even with my warnings. Didn't realize that display issues were such a big issue for budget laptops!

Also Denuvo Laptop? That's a fucking nightmare!

If it wasn't for gaming but casual use you could have gone for any i5 or i3 with 8 GB of ram and 500 GB / 1TB hard disk. I don't know why they call i7 5500U an i7 when it's actually i3 (2 cores 4 threads).

WTF? Serioysly? Thought it was 4 core/8 Threads. Fucking Intel man... You're supposed to name your CPUs according to the core count so just STICK TO IT.
I feel i got gypped.

i7-5500U

It's not that bad cpu or laptop but i believe there were better solutions. Also cheaper ones.

Recently i recommended to my friends from Spain MSI laptop - i5-6300HQ (4 cores 4 threads), 8 GB ram, 1 TB hard disk, GT940MX gpu. Price was 620 euros. Coudn't find better specs for that money.

Depends on your point of view. I find it very manageable in my backpack.

Otherwise, I'm in agreement with your post.

I've been using Lenovo's E31 series laptops quite a bit on my current work place and I do like them: they're lightweight, and run all the needed office software without a hitch. Now granted, E31's aren't meant for gaming or anythig like that, but I do think they're quality machines.

The office also has some HP laptops, which despite sturdier frame are other wise feel inferior in comparision. I don't recall the type of those HP's though, but despite they are just as new as the Lenovo's, they run more sluggish.
There is no such thing as a universally good laptop brand. Stop trying to find one. It's just an exercise in frustration.

Figure out what you want to do and what you can pay, figure out the specs you need for that workload, and look for specific models that meet your needs.
"Are Lenovo Laptops any good?"

Depends how much you're willing to pay for one. Cheap ones have same specs as other similarly priced laptops but a much worse build quality (Lenovo B50 for example has a very crappy monitor lid, cheap plastic and way too flexible, the charging port is also not very good from the inside and can easily damage). Meanwhile the expensive ones can be quite good, very robust build quality and better specs.

Same as other brands, Lenovo also packs a bunch of junk software with their laptops, unfortunately there isn't much of a better or worse than other brands here, you'll find equal crap on Acer or Asus models for example. My suggestion to this is to download a non-OEM iso and reinstall Windows from scratch, free from junk-ware.

Lenovo are a mixed bag, if you're not looking to spend too much go for something else, otherwise they're worth a look.

Epitaph666: Is lenovo a good manufacturer for laptops particularly?
I found a laptops with good specs/money ratio but i'm having second thoughts cause i've not heard good things about Lenovo.

So what do you guys think?
The last three Laptops I bought were Lenovos - they're fine machines.
