ShadowAngel.207: The question is why would anybody even want to buy that overrated piece of shit? It's a typical Molyneux game: No depth or substance, gets boring after 2 hours because you already saw everything and then you wonder why you bought it (I fell for the massive hype around that piece of shit when it was originally released, bought it full price and regret this to this day)

Primelly: Why do you have to comment if you hate the game? Why did you waste minutes of your life writting this? i believe the real idiot here is you. Enough said.

And yes, i did waste my time replying to you, but i believe i at least have a legit reason to be here since i did like the game...

And you regret it to this day? Oh how do you sleep at night? Poor soul lost some money on a game. Not being funny but we all have at some point. Prick.
Necroing a four-month-old thread to rant at a stranger: a great way to make your forum debut. =|
Well, the first two games have over 50,000 votes, which suggests to me that they'd sell quite well on GOG, even if the games aren't great. Obviously votes don't equal exact sales, but it should at least give a good idea of the interest surrounding a game especially since B&Ws aren't available anywhere else right now (like System Shock 2).

https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games#order=votes_total&search=black

So I'm sure GOG are actively trying to bring the game, it's legal or technical reasons stopping them. I don't remember what the consensus was on the rights, whether or not they were split between EA and Lionhead/Microsoft; it may be discussed in this thread but I don't feel like looking through it right now.

timppu: I have the retail version of B&W, but I've never installed nor played it (yet). No idea if it would run on my Windows 7 PC, or would I have to install it on one of my Windows XP/98SE machines instead.

However, I'm surprised by all the praise it gets because all I can remember were lukewarm and even poor (user) reviews back when it came out. I could remember wrong, I guess.
It felt like it was unfinished and a bit buggy but it was a good game with some nice ideas. A little like Jurassic Park Trespasser in that respect.

I might search out my copy to see if it runs on modern systems.

Damn, you got me there. Trespasser, the game which everyone seemed to hate, but I liked (at least the little I played it).

tinyE: LOOK!

Black & White is overrated, HOWEVER being overrated doesn't make something crap.

Is it the best game in the world? NO! Is it a great game? NO! Shit, it probably wouldn't even count as a good game, but is it worth having and something fun to play with on a lazy afternoon, provided the price is right? I think so.
This. I have games in my GOG library that wouldn't be considered "great" or "good", but that doesn't mean they aren't fun to play from time to time. I would like Black & White added just so I could have it in my library again. There are a lot of older games I wish were here, but patience is a virtue.

Sorry to necro a 2 year old thread but this still needs to be a thing on GOG, it's such a fun game to play.

Also, to those who are on the other side of the fence because of things like Peter Molineux, you feel the game is dumb or overrated. Remember what a great game dev once said:
"Games can be as stupid as they like, as long as they are fun." -Keita Takahashi, creator of Katamari Damacy

Remember, it's a game, just because you didn't like it doesn't mean it's not a great game.

I second this, but it needs to come with the add-on content and creature isle, i played black and white and black and white 2 as a kid so being able to have some way to get it again, even if i have to pay for it, would be great.

black and white 2 should be on this too with battle of the gods.

both games are flawed but the first game is a masterpiece in my eyes, half of the game for me would be sitting back and watching my creature go around and do stuff (which i would ether scold or reward) and watching my people live their lives.

sitting back and listening to that background music while my chimp goes around is what i want to do again.

I have the discs but the tech it used and the disc is so scratched from my younger self not taking care of my crap that it doesn't run, having one i can download, stick on a USB stick for the install folder and play whenever i want......that would be very nice.

I want this game on GOG to do that or just to play it normally i wish they would make it happen.

also im wary of "abandonware" sites so even if its avalable on whatever that is i don't think i would be ok in trying to get it, not like it would run anyway i think, not if its just the original files.

one thing i did notice that was odd though, if you go to the GOG launcher and type in black and white in the search bar, black and white appears but it doesn't have any information on it.....I think their doing it, if you type in something with no results it doesn't show anything, so this might actsually be a black and white placeholder result until they add it into the game.

I really REALLY hope thats the case
From what I can gather from this forum post... it's the same old debate. The last game to have a similar debate was Cyberpunk. So I guess some things never change.

I personally enjoyed the game a lot and I also think it's a masterpiece. Yeah, the game is not 100% what was promised, but you know what? It's a good game. The Creature AI alone was way ahead of it's time and it still holds. You can teach it quite complex stuff if you have the time. Maybe I'm wrong, but I fail to see too many new games that can do that (to have a really good AI). Also, the game itself has a lot of hidden things that you can discover with time. Even last week I have found things I didn't know before.

Besides, whether you like it or not, the game definitely deserves to be on GOG. I think there are enough people that would enjoy a release and really make their day. So hopefully there will be one :D

Btw, for anyone interested, there are ways to make the game work on windows 10. You need the fan patch. You can search for it on google/the black and white forums.
About the fan patch for B&W1 - also listed on its PC Gaming Wiki over here too - https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Black_%26_White

I really wish Black & White 1+2 would come to GOG.

EDIT:
Here's PC Gaming Wiki for B&W2 also - https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Black_%26_White_2

It would have been a good candidate to have been remade for the Nintendo Wii or even the Switch.

Now the game is just over 20 years old. Around that time I think the average was for people to have 1ghz cpu
These are the minimum specs.

Operating system (OS) 95, 98, Me, 2000
Processor (CPU) Intel Pentium II 350 MHz
System memory (RAM) 64 MB
Hard disk drive (HDD) 600 MB
Video card (GPU) 8 MB of VRAM
DirectX 7.0a compatible
