I am soo sorry to ask for more help but I haven't been to GamersGate in... well.. a long time.

And I signed in okay... found my games okay... but I can't figure out how to download them. Every game I click on in my shelf it just downloads 284k and that's it. I know these games are bigger than that.

Did GamersGate change something drastically since the last time I was there? Maybe it's my memory but I don't remember having this problem there before. I simply downloaded games and installed and played them.. just like here at gog. Or so my memory insists. Could be wrong. Again.
You're downloading a small program that will download the game when run. Download managers of this sort are frequently used to shovel malware onto your PC, but you're probably okay to trust GG. Maybe.

If I remember correctly - you have downloaded their "download client". When you double click on 284k files it should connect you again to your GamersGate shelf and start the download process....
It's been years since I used the site last as it had some great DRM-Free games. I think the file you download contains the information to download the installation files.
Also, two things to point out :

1° I haven't used gg for a while, but, unless it has changed, there is an unofficial way to backup the drm-free version of the games in the process. Something like checking your temp files after you've downloaded the game through the small installer, and possibly before it finished installation.

2° In case you have other problems, their customer service is totally great, helpful, and friendly.

Okay, thank you all very much. So sorry to have posted this now. You guys were right. Once I clicked on that 284K file it automatically downloaded AND INSTALLED the game. Which leaves me trying to figure out how to keep a copy of the installer like I do with gog games. But now that I think about it.. I do seem to recall that there was some funky process you had to go through to get a copy of the installer. And of course I can't recall the steps of that process at all.. lol.. but I do recall it not being as easy as gog... in fact I think that's why I stopped buying stuff there.

If they're selling the game DRM Free anyway... what the hell is the big deal about making backup installers easy to locate and save??? Seems like they're trying to say "Yeah we sell DRM Free games" but wink wink nod nod good luck trying to install YOUR game to any machine you want without the internet.

I gave all replies here a +1 in case anyone cares about rep (I sure as hell don't) but if you care just wanted to thank you.

After the download is completed, but before the installation setup begins, the setup files exist in a temp folder. You need to copy the files in this folder in order to save the DRM-free installer, because the files will get deleted after the installation is complete.

Ahh...yes.. that does ring a bell now. THANK YOU.

I am on a new computer and am therefore downloading my stuff again as my old one was destroyed in a flood and I can't get the data off it. So I've downloading lots of stuff from all over the place. lol.

And I do recall now that this is indeed why I stopped buying at Gamersgate. This is crap. They're trying to have it both ways. They want to claim they're selling "DRM Free" games but still want to force you to verify ownership through the downloading scheme. Nope. Won't be getting another dime from me.
