What movies / series do you know that is similar to The Gamers, in which the story of a Role Playing Game is played out, with the player's reasoning and rules making the entire setting look odd?

I do remember seeing one on Youtube, but I can't remember its name now.

Movie: "Mazes and Monsters" (1982), with Tom Hanks?

Edit:

YT-Series: "1 For All"?

It's a far out game.
Knights of Badassdom comes to mind, though it steps into fantasy.

Otherwise, checked https://www.imdb.com/list/ls036427417/ ?

Wow! Look at young Tom Hanks! I did not knew about that movie.

About 1 For All, I also did not knew about that web series. I'll check it out. It looks neat.

Hey! Another movie I had never heard about! And a IMDB list of many more! That is more than helpful, thank you.

Should anyone know more good web series, please do so! Thanks.
Not a movie or series, but I feel I have to bring up Darths & Droids, a webcomic where Star Wars movies don't exist, and are instead a homebrew tabletop RPG between friends. It's brilliant, especially the prequels (the comic goes through the story in chronological order, so they start with Episode I).

You can watch other series by the same group as Gamers.

JourneyQuest
Dorkness Rising
Hands of Fate
Humans & Households
Standard Action

Also

Legend of the Lich Lord
Chad Vader: Day Shift Manager
The Guild

And a sorta-video series

DM of the Rings
Few and far between.

There's Stuff of Legends, but that's closer to celebrity blackjack, and a simplified version of D&D for the purpose of doing puppets and introducing the fun of D&D, unlike Gamers/Dorkness Rising which is a lot closer to the actual experience.

I think Dead Gentlemen (Zombie Orpheus) are the only ones to really do D&D right, where you see both sides of the table. You can get the full adult hamminess of a D&D group from Vox Machina, but you don't see the player's point of view, just how the session likely went out with all the roleplaying thrown out.

BlueMooner: JourneyQuest
I get the feeling it will never finish. Not only that they have to replace so many of the actors that were so awesome in the first season. :(

I agree. Still, I think what we have is great. I mean c'mon... orcish grammar arguments? Orcish opera? It even has the actor from Cabin In The Woods. There's more great stuff in the series than it has a right to.

Dorkness Rising
Hands of Fate
Humans & Households
Those I got from GOG. Plus "Natural One", I think.

Aha! JourneyQuest is series I started watching. Nice one! It seemed fun and high production values. Nicely done. I think I did not bookmarked it because I thought I would remember where to find it (in the same channel for "The Gamers"). But then I forgot why I tought I would reach it again. Thank you.

Standar Action is new to me. I will check it out.

Legend of the Lich Lord

The Guild
I saw some episodes from "The Guild", but it never clicked to me. Maybe because it seemed to focus more on the players, or perhaps it was the intro and outro that I had to skip when watching multiple episodes in a row. The others are new to me.

DM of the Rings
Oh, I remember reading that one. Yeah, it was funny, but not as great as the "Order of the stick". Though you are right in that the OotS did not feature any players, just the characters. Still, bought all the books I could find.

Thank you for your fine suggestions, BlueMooner.

Forgive my ignorance, but is there any relation between Dead Gentlemen and Zombie Orpheus?

Oh, I had no idea. I only saw about half the first season. I am sad to learn it does lower its level and it was not concluded.
I think it is always unfair to replacement actors. The original actors never had to deal with a "before".

I'd thought they were the same company, which was always confusing to me, as they seemed to suddenly go under another name.

But Dead Gentelman's site it says they are distributed by Zombie Orpheus, although more than half the catalog is from the same players.

So.... I don't know. I treat them as one and the same.

I see. Some times companies do such things, to limit liabilities, contractual obligations or to establish some other technical boundaries. But to us, they are the same thing and we may not be very wrong.
