Make Hong Kong’s shadows their seediest yet. Catch it on tape. Exchange for valuable goods.

We’re not sure if you’ve heard, but the freshly released Shadowrun: Hong Kong is here and has its very own level editor, all set to take on your cyberpunk-crazy creativity - and so are we.

We want you to create and tell your own short story with the Shadowrun: Hong Kong level editor, make a highlights video of it, post the video in a comment below with a few words on why your story is amazing, and be ready to share it with the crowds.

We will shortlist the Top 10, and from those - run a community vote to select the winning three, who will get to grab some truly amazing prizes and have their fan-made levels added to Shadowrun: Hong Kong game goodies!

Before you let your creativity run wild, here’s some guidelines to stick to:

-- The highlights video must be no longer than 3 to 5 minutes
-- The story must be your original work
-- The story must be complete, with a beginning and end
-- We’re limiting entries to one submission per person
-- Offensive/hateful content will be disqualified
-- Make it exciting, challenging and fun!

What about the prizes? You’ll be thrilled to hear that they’re pretty awesome! Keep in mind, though, that due to production times, Shadowrun swag will arrive at your doorstep towards the end of the year.

1st place:
-- Limited edition Shadowrun: Hong Kong messenger bag
-- Limited edition Shadowrun: Hong Kong action figure set
-- 5 GOG.com $9.99 game codes
-- Level added to game goodies

2nd place:
-- Limited edition Shadowrun: Hong Kong action figure set
-- 4 GOG.com $9.99 game codes
-- Level added to game goodies

3rd place:
-- Limited edition Shadowrun: Hong Kong messenger bag
-- 3 GOG.com $9.99 game codes
-- Level added to game goodies

We’ll award honorable mentions to those that make the Top 10, but miss the podium - they’ll each get 1 GOG.com $9.99 game code.

At your requests, we’re extending the contest deadline to Monday, September 21st, 9:59am GMT (11:59am CEST / 5:30am EDT / 2:30am PDT) to post your entries. We aim to shortlist winners by Thursday, September 24th, and run the vote on the Top 10 until Monday, September 28th.

Good luck, everyone!
Quick question - one of the rules says nothing offensive or hateful. The hateful part is clear, but what falls under the heading of offensive to the point of being disqualified?

Most likely, whatever thought led you to ask that question. ;)

I was going to ask this myself. It's not like this is being presented to a bunch of kids. Shadowrun itself ain't exactly a PC sandbox to play in. I don't think it should matter, if it makes sense in the context of the story, or at least clarify to mean something along the lines of: "No entire levels filled with porn."
Ouch
you need quite a bit of free time to be able to make it in 16 days.
Well, not that it matter much annyway since i dont have the skills required.

No attacks on other characters. No taunting of NPCs in dialogues. No promotion of gun violence, please. ;)
After your guys' feedback, we've decided to extend the contest duration from 16 days to a full month - hopefully that'll give more of you a chance to enter :)

Also, to answer some questions:

--> What if we own the Steam version?
If you're able to export the level save in a way that will make it playable via the GOG version (and you should be), I can't see a problem with it!

--> What does "offensive" mean?
We don't want something that'd personally target other users, living or dead people, social groups etc., pornographic... We don't mean "don't show any sort of violence", but rather "don't create something that'd make someone feel personally targeted or our judges feel unnecessarily uncomfortable judging the entry", if that makes sense. It's a common sense-based rule, really.

Well, crap. That eliminates some of the best stuff right off the bat. -laughs-

Thank you for the clarification. =)

Admit it, you were planning to remake Hatred with the Shadowrun engine! ;)

-laughing hard- Those people are pussies. If I wanted to go that route, I'd do something a hell of a lot worse. ;)

Thank you so much for taking our criticism to heart. I don't know that I, personally, will be able to enter, but that definitely seems like a more manageable time frame for someone to create a short scenario for the game.

Skarn.852: #1: As anybody at Harebrained Schemes will tell you if you ask, the editor is "ugly, but powerful", which was their stated goal from day one of the original SR:R Kickstarter, since its the same editor that they use to create the official campaigns.

#2: Speaking as somebody who HAS tried to used the editor...
Do you by any chance know of standalone software with the interface similar to SR's dialogue editor?

...you do understand that one of Shadowrun's core tenets IS about targeting social groups, renamed as different races, etc, correct? As well as social classes, the interactions both good and bad in between them? I mean, ffs, one of Dragonfall's arcs involved a racist pro-human anti-other races angle. Did the people who came up with this contest even play the game?
What GOG is telling you people is do whatever you want but stay faithful to the Shadowrun lore without unnecessary or exaggerated stuff, unjustified dogma or mental aberrations from real life. For ex. metahumans discrimination is not the same as political correctness racism, shadowrunner is not a serial killer but do wet work when necessary etc.

Shadowrun Hong Kong is especially good in explaining SR lore, better than Dragonfall so after both games you most likely catch grip of in game reality how things works.

adaliabooks: I would ask whether I could make a level in the editor for the previous versions of the game
I would love to know the answer to that too. I agree that it would go against adding it to the d=goodies for the game, but still. Does one have to own Shadowrun Hong Kong to make an entry ?
Aaawwww. Would love to enter this but I don't have the game :(
I played the real RPG even!
