Dear GoG please stop being so picky.

Just found out Tanglewood will not be coming here.

Too many devs and pubs are telling me they've already talked to you about releasing here to only be turned away.

I'm grateful for the curation, and that we're not awash with low grade rubbish.

Its great GoG can be used as a certificate of quality.

But the bar sometimes seems to be detrimentally high and might be putting dev/pubs off of attempting to release here.
You can get it DRM free on itch.io on release day

"and that we're not awash with low grade rubbish"
And
"Certificate of quality"
Both made me laugh,

If anything they got rid of the bar totally since they passed Australia at speed.

I disagree, but I want to hear (well, read) why you think that. Maybe I'm missing a piece of the picture.

I know, I've thanked the dev for that. Its more that I'm getting a lot of devs saying they're wanting to release here, but not making the grade.

who cares, as long as the game is available. what is important is the game, not the store. if they don't want my money, no skin off my nose.

I am an elitist prick, and personally I'm fine with how GOG is doing.
It's true that sometimes very good games slip by, and even worse at times GOG inverts the direction and, after apologizing, accept a previously rejected game often long after release -something quite embarassing, I think.

Still, the alternative is shovelware and asset flips. All other sites are full of it.
Even if there was a "less curated" section of the site, how could the employees cope with the sheer quantity of submissions without falling into "everything is fine" territory?
No, better to keep things this way, i say.
I heartily approve of the curation.

To each his own, but I went over to that itch site once and was not impressed with what was on offer.

Imo, GOG serves a different market of gamers (ones who like higher-quality games, imo ;) ).

I'm normally all for gog publishing stuff, but i could see GOG being worried about something that is new but isn't even aimed at their target platform: the PC. I've followed this project for a while, and I could defend why GOG might not want this here, but the most obvious reason is that the primary thing that it aims at is SEGA Genesis cartridge.
I've seen many great games rejected by GoG. Yet, we get hidden object games.
If, to avoid shovelware, I have to lose a great game, I'm fine with it. Steam is the result of "letting people decide what they want to buy/play" and it's in a very bad situation because of this (it's the reason I abandoned it). People are stupid, you'll always find someone that will buy a game, even if it's bad, be it because of cards, achievements, low difficulty, "+1 to the library", whatever, so you need to have a curation system that filters out the things you don't want on your store. The curation system must be handled by humans (otherwise it would be ineffective), and humans can make mistakes, but I'm ok with it.

What matters is the possibility of this store alienating developers.

I personally see GoG as the closest thing Steam has to a direct competitor, if its seen as too inaccessible then its damaging its potential.

We are getting shovelware, though.

that's gOg's problem, and as said - I do not care much. I got itch, humble. origin, uplay, steam and many others. gOg is just one among many stores.

Touché. It's still less than anywhere else, but it started with GOG allowing previously rejected stuff like recently visual novels and hidden object games, and in-dev games too (but that's a different subject). Not to say that those genres or games are shovelware (even though I've got a personal prejudice against visual novels), but GOG has clearly changed its curation policy during the past 2 years, letting in more stuff.
Still, the hands off approach of Valve is disgusting, and I don't want it to come here.
