bretonf: I knew there was a high chance they wouldn't, but I'm still very disappointed that :

- They didn't give me the reason. Just a copy/pasted message with absolutely NO information as to why they refused it.

- They didn't play the game. I know because they didn't download the build I gave them.

Anyway, the DRM free version will be available on my site and Itch.io.

omega64: Really strange, it seems weird for GOG not to try a game before rejecting it.

Good on you for giving people a DRM-Free option anyway.
As a backer and a P&C advocate, it's pretty unfortunate. But expected. They rejected more high profile adventure games, so I didn't have many hopes on them accepting a one-man small project.

And I don't think it's that weird they don't try a game. I had that same suspicion many times before. Trying games is very time consuming, and thus expensive. And there a lot, and I mean a huge lot of new releases every week. So they probably discard several just on a quick glance basis (backer numbers/budget, screenshots, if there other similar games about to be released, etc)

I guess it makes sense, it's just sad as that means some games won't be given a proper chance.
Let's be clear : I half expected them to reject it (considering they're very picky), I'm not blaming them for that.

But not giving the reason why?

How am I supposed to know what's wrong? Is it the graphics? The controls? The first person view? The fact it's not popular enough? I have no idea, so I just can't know what to improve for my next game. And that is pretty annoying.

Actually it's pretty staggering to see the contrast between what people think of Demetrios when they see it the first time (usually "looks like just another Point & Click"), and what they think of it after playing it (usually "that was a brilliant game!"). Everyone who have played it praised it. It's just hard to sell for some reason.

Oh well, maybe word of mouth will work in the long term!

Um... I already made a thread about GOG rejecting Demetrios.

But it's a pity people preferred making fun of a typo I made in that thread, rather than commenting on the situation. ) :

bretonf: Right now we are fully focused on releasing titles that are going
to be a perfect match for our users.

Good one GOG. Good one.
I think Hatoful Boyfriend is published by Devolver.
Imagine how many people would have been angry at them for not putting it on GoG...

It's much easier to get onto GoG when you have a publisher, it's a fact.
Which only adds up to my theory that GoG is mostly interested by popular games before anything.

Well... Demetrios is OUT!

The game has got great reviews so far, with Just Adventure giving it a "B" rating and Adventure Treff an 81% :)
And I know more good gaming reviews are coming!

You can get it on Steam for only $8.99 (10% off this week!)
http://store.steampowered.com/app/451570

Or buy it from my site, and get both a DRM Free version + a Steam key for the same price!
http://www.demetriosgame.com/en/order/

Still a few DVD (DRM Free) units available to preorder on the site too! (these will be delivered one month after the release)

I hope you enjoy the game! :)
XD
This is exactly the kind of game that fits the GOG audience, not 'games' like Omnibus...

Thank you... :)

The worse is that sometimes people blame devs when their games isn't on GoG but it's usually GoG who turned it down! Believe me, I would have LOVED to have Demetrios available here! I'm more on the DRM Free side than the Steam way of doing things!

In any case, I'm very glad by the reviews so far :)

Here's another from BlowSomeSteam, they rated it 8.4 / 10!

I used to prefer buying on Gog rather than Steam because of the DRM issue but a lot of the games I like are rejected by GOG. They seem to only want to be a boring store selling the most popular games regardless of quality. So great games like Demetrios, ASA, AR-K are rejected.

So, now I just tend to prefer buying on humble store which gives me a DRM free key as well as a Steam key and I'll just stop spending my money on Gog. I don't want to support a service that rejects adventure games and it's inconvenient to split my library between different services... It's their loss since my game budget is roughly $40/month but it's their problem.

I hope more people can join me in boycotting Gog as long as they refuse to include good games within their library for flimsy reasons.
I think it would be definitely good to have a non-curated section on GOG where you can buy games that are rejected, but there is interest in buying them.
People can ignore that game selection there if they want to, or they can buy from there - but it should be the decision of the customers.

GOG curation is shit anyway. It isn't one of the strong points of this shop, it's one of its weak ones. They reject way too many good games (some make it here in the end, but it takes quite a while and a lot of complaining first) and they have accepted a lot of crap too (probably because of large publishers). I still can't believe Nelly Cootalot isn't here, for instance. Or that Larry Magna Cum Laude is here.

such a hard words.... gog tries to keep the collection good and clean i guess.
as far as certain declined games, i have to agree, i been waitng for ages for secret files, the publisher is here with games but seems to have trouble releasing these 4 games ....
they release new games and other old games but secret files is still not here the 4 titles have >500 votes and may less good games with 1 or zero votes have arrived, so why the postponing of the secret files games?
Imho they fit nicely among the syberia games and other 3P games like black mirror (i have all BM games , alsp have syberia 1+2, and the broken sword games)
Also still waiting for nighlong (point and click)

I just bought the demetrios game at steam and the soundtracks aswell, the game should be drm free according to the developer, i will test the game now.

Gamersgate also has the game (steam) but i decide to get it at steam cause GG has way too many manual reviews, which make my hair turn grey , that is the hair thats left after i almost tore out all my hair because of the many manual reviews (its for security purposes)
Had at least 3 to 5 manual reviews the last 6 months and that is way to much.
They get the money fast but you have to wait at least 30 minutes 9sometimes 1 hour or more and if you happen to buy a game in the weekend.... well then 90% chances you will have to wait till monday, i think that is unbareable)

Anyway, unless the thousands of negative posts and votes at various forums magically disappeared, google for gamersgate, read the reviews and ratings, and GG shows up way below all other gamesites, compared to gog and steam, GOG / steam are much better rated on the internet by users/customers.

magna cum laude DOES suck, but its part of a series and it always blows to have a piece missing. that said, i quite like gog's curation policy, as i definitely wouldn't want to see this place become another desura.
