...you unlock a game (by reaching a certain purchase amount) that you already own? Are you just out of luck, or can you swap it for a game of equal price that you don't own?

You get a code for the game that you can give to someone else. That's all.

No, but you can do something for the community and gift them or [url=http://www.gog.com/forum/general/the_community_giveaway]here.

To the best of my knowledge, no, you cannot swap it. You will get a gift key for it though, so you do get an extra copy of the game which you can give or trade away.
