Wondering why and if I can delete the following folder: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\support. It seems to fill up as programs get installed and it sits on my C drive taking up valuable SSD space.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

I don't know if the folder and its contends are required or can be removed, but you could certainly move it elsewhere and make a junction to it so that galaxy thinks it is at its original location but really is where you want it to be.

Let's say you want it to sit at "D:\Stuff\" and be named "Galaxysupportfolder":
1. You move and rename it as usual.
2. Run CMD.exe and type the following command (Windows does NOT care about shift case, and the second path is obviously dependent on your chosen location)
2a. MKLINK /J C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\support D:\Stuff\Galaxysupportfolder

Done. You now have a "C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\support" folder that is really just pointing to "D:\Stuff\Galaxysupportfolder" (kind of like a shortcut, but better because applications handle it like any other folder).

SSD users always seem to complain how they are running out of space. That's why I am still using HDDs, even if they are slower. 2 terabytes in your C:-drive is sooooo nice. No need to move anything anywhere.

It's just because games etc tend to install and download to your C: drive. If you don't change the defaults to your hdd of course it'll fill up quickly.

Yeah... but:

- Then the benefits of having a SDD are lessened, as your humongous games are not loaded from it anymore, but from the "slow" HDD.

- Since I use laptops mostly, they quite often have only one hard drive bay anyway. So you have to choose whether you want a smaller but faster SDD, or a bigger but slower HDD. You can't have both. For backup purposes though, you can always connect an external USB or eSATA HDD.

Anyway, to each his own. This is mine. :)

That said, I recognize the price per gigabyte ratio of SSDs is slowly becoming better. So you can already buy e.g. 1 terabyte SSDs... if you are willing to pay 300-400€ for it. So yeah, in time...

True, if you only have one hard drive bay HDD are the better option right now.
Not all games need an ssd though, those I install on my hdd.

If you have a little bit of spare cash you can get a 15TB SSD :-P

... with a slight twist on the meaning of "little bit".
This seems to be a problem with many programs saving data on the C Drive when they don't have to. All my program defaults are set to alternative drives but this folder seems to be forced on the C Drive. The C Drive should be used for the OS only IMO.

No, the problem is not the ssd at all. The problem is peoples innate laziness. The fact that they use clietwares is a good indication of this. For instance, having than 1 or 2 games installed at any one point. Cleaning off programs you don't use etc. I have a 500gb in the current machine and 250gb before that and really didn't get near full at all, just all the garbageware that gets installed.

And running things, could never go back to hdd for running purposes.
The support folder contains files that are used for configuring applications installed by GOG Galaxy. Removing it will probably cause problems when updating or uninstalling your games. I wouldn't recommend removing it.
