More and more games appear here on GOG cost more then anywhere else for Canada.

This new game for example, "Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus" cost 40.29CDN on GOG. Where on steam it's 33.99CDN.

I don't understand the reason. I tried to contact GOG support, but they tell me they can't do anything about it, and it's for the devs of set game to fix the price, if they chose to do so.

Now I can pirate any game I want at any given moment. But I chose to buy games and support the devs instead. But shit like this makes me want to change my mind and go back pirating.

I really hope someone from the blue-guys/girls can do something about it. Cause just like that you may lose a good customer. :/

Cheers!

The prices are higher in Canada because of the higher taxes put on the game developers by the bloated and corrupt Canadian government.

All you have to do is wait for a sale. Patience is key.

OK. But others games have exact same price as on steam. Why this one is different ?

Well, you have to ask the publisher about that, they are the ones setting the prices.

Not all games..Some of them and that is up to the developer because they think they are doing us a favor selling us a drm free version of the game..What I would suggest is either wait for a sale or if you don't care about drm buy it on steam. But i care for drm so I usually wait for a sale.

Personally I don't like the 'constant internet connection' required to play steam games.

Secondly, you are not buying the game, but the license to play the game on steam. You own no games on steam.

Thirdly, steam allows others to see and track your gaming habits. Steam has trackers that invade your privacy like Google. I hate that.

WTF are you talking about? Prices tend to be higher here because GOG updates the exchange rate on a regular basis (the base price of games here is in US dollars) while Steam takes forever. In the vast majority of cases, this, along with the publsihers wanting to charge a premium for DRM-free, is what makes it more expensive for us.

As for falloutttt, if he doesn't like the price here, he can buy it on Steam.

yeah, but they never care to answer a question. a especially question like this. but some do, and have fixed the price in the past. but it's quite rare. and this shit never happens on steam. it's only here on GOG. witch is why i wonder wtf...

pure nonsense!

some games are fine others are not. some devs can fix the price, others don't care. na, the problem is GOG not giving a flying fuck on the matter.

it's not about the price. it's about having the same price as everywhere else. i don't mind paying full price sometimes, if i really like the game. but i'm not going to pay extra, just because a greedy dev think that canadians should pay extra, for some weird reason.

No, the problem is publishers insisting on a higher price for DRM-free. Are you honestly so think you think GOG would turn a blind eye to the fact that higher prices on games here than Steam would mean the vast majority of gamers would just buy on Steam? Because the vast majority of gamers don't give a fuck about DRM.

I don't know really. Not long ago, whenever i wanted to buy a game, and if it was overpriced, I would ask a blue-guy, and they would fix the price the next day. not kidding. but nowadays, they don't do this anymore.

and when i try to contact the devs, they simply ignore me. so, what to do ?

Apologies for the 'thick' comment. I'm in a mood today and should probably not be posting.

Anyway, as far as I see it, the solution is simple: if DRM-free is of paramount importance to you, then cough up the extra bucks and buy it here. Or just don't bother with that game. I'd also suggest contacting the publisher and letting them know why you've decided to not purchase. I've done this on more than a few occasions. Probably doesn't make a shit of difference, but if we don't let publishers know why we're not buying a game, they're not going to be pushed into doing what we want.

OR... just buy the game on Steam.

For me, piracy is not an option. I'd rather just not play the game at all than pirate it. You do what your conscience allows though.

Good point! Will contact the the devs and publisher on every opportunity from now on. They should indeed know the reason why.

As for conscience, I don't restrict myself from doing whatever most people, government or country consider illegal or whatever. If I think it's wrong, then it's wrong. And if i think it's right, then it is so. so, yeah...

Thank you all for comments. It was interesting to see what others have to say.

Have a wonderful day! :)
