RCT2 (openrct2)
doom (freedoom)

you get the idea. buy them here so you can use the frontends with native operating systems from win-mac-lin
freedom isnt a port, its freeware game content for doom source ports like GZDoom, Crispy Doom, Chocolate Doom etc.

So something like OpenLara for the original Tomb Raider.
We already have several topics like this:

https://www.gog.com/forum/general/list_of_free_modern_remakes
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/gog_games_that_have_alternative_engines_andor_game_data
There's also entire websites, subreddits, and other communication minutia dedicated to this.
... pretty much every cult classic or popular game from back when has a GPL-licensed engine reimplementation of some sort these days. A quick web search of whatever one is interested in is more edifying than any list.
