i usually only purchase GOTY versions of a game to make sure i have all of a game's content by the time i play it.
i purchased Grim dawn before the first story expansion due to a failure on my part to do some research before i bought it.
the point is that its a great game thats recently received another expansion with the devs saying another may or may not be on the way.
having become a fan of this genre, i discovered titan quest, a more than 10 year old game that is still receiving updates with no obvious end in sight.
from a different genre, Pathfinder (kingmaker) seems to receive story expansions which have nothing to do with the main character and seemingly may not be valuable to enjoy the story mode.
its getting to the point where im uncertain which versions of the game are worth purchasing or if there is a clear end to some of these games's development.
i suppose the question is "whats wrong with making a sequel with all the freedom from newer engines etc.
this reminds me of games from ubisoft or similar publishers where you need a map to figure out what you are getting when you play the game.
lastly to fans of these games and others similar, do you feel that this constant development on some of your favorite games is actually worth it?
this has bugged me for some time now, so i really your opinions
