So I have a friend who is really trying to get me into the Fate/Subtitle series.
I tried to watch the anime. Stretching a VN/LN chapter over 40 minutes was very boring.
Right now, I'm trying the LN. The presentation is…standard for a game of it's type, but alas, I've been spoiled by far better.
So I came in from Phoenix Wright as my first introduction to visual novels. The text pacing was very good, the characters animated, and it didn't take 15 minutes just to get though one scene. (I'm a speed reader, so anything with janky text pacing is just bad.)
Fate by default has sweeping text, wiping transitions, and lifeless stills for character shots. Even with the text made instant, and the transitions instant, there's still a pause every time a pose changes, and scrolling though the text is still a pain.
The thing is, Phoenix Wright came out first on GBA, back in 2001. Even though Fate as a VN first premiered in 2004, I feel that Type Moon could have done better.
I suppose the thing is, both Phoenix Wright and games such as Professor Layton do break things up a fair bit.
So, that's my rant. Are there any games you'd want to play, if it was presented in another style? I feel I'd enjoy Fate more if it just eschewed with all the space & pauses between text, and just gave me it all at a time. Like an actual novel.
