I've never played Revision as I don't have the Steam version of DX, but from my understanding it's less in line with "the spirit of DX", especially with how the new maps look and work.
GMDX alters maps too, but it does so in very subtle ways. Mind, I'm still in the NYC areas but there's nothing really game-changing so far, just alterations to NPCs' and world details' positions that enrich the experience rather than making changes for the sake of; there are also more items, including weapon mods, lying around. That's just for maps - you have changes and additions to AI, skills, interface, audio, weapons, gameplay mechanics, etc.
