MadOverlord.755: GOG is probably savvy in not trying to match Steam sales at every corner, but I would love to see a sale on GOG called "Let's Destroy the Steam Holiday Sale", where they undercut Steam sale prices on every game by $1. Oooh boy that would be hilarious! Lawsuits would probably follow, though.
timppu: But then Steam would come up with even lower sale prices of their own, and so on and so on... After awhile, these stores would be paying us to buy games from them!
How's that for price erosion, huh?!?
Anyway, there are other things besides just price that make people decide where they buy their games from. Some want to have their games on one service (like Steam) and maybe want some of the services offered there, some others prefer DRM-free and a more curated approach to games (GOG) etc...
Like I mentioned earlier, Turok appears to be slightly cheaper on GOG than on Steam, at least for me. Yet, I am sure many Steam-lovers choose to buy it in Steam instead anyway. Likewise, I buy many games from GOG instead of Steam, even if I could have bought them cheaper on Steam (or from a 3rd party Steam key seller site).
tinyE: "The art of fighting, without fighting."
timppu: Isn't that then just art? Like a corn dog without the corn is just a dog?
I agree with this. I think even more than price, people will pay for convenience or for features that they are given for shopping from a specific vendor. Based on my own observations, I don't knew that this would make much of a difference.
