It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

DreamedArtist: Are you guys running dual cores or quads and how much memory you guys using to complement the cpu's?
I only slightly notice it on my quad-core thin-and-light netbook, but then I look at the site content and see that it's a javascript horror show. Some of it may be unavoidable, but most of it is not... at least if it were not "aligned" with GOG's objective of gaming world domination through Galaxy.

I see, I would highly recommend 16gb for the quads and if you go 8 or above on cpu cores go 32gb of ram. I had times when I get around 16gb of ram usage and 16% cpu usage on my system and I run a 3950X with 32gb ram. browsers are not doing good for quads with low ram these days it seems. :/

But GOG alone does not eat any cpu usage for me just 227mb to 340mb of ram usage

Orkhepaj: yep they would ,but that would require throwing out most of the old codes and systems
Not sure what you mean by that?

Older code tends to be written better to cope with less powerful systems.
We live in the age of - What can we get away with on average with the average user?

toxicTom: I just wish they'd put the news in a column visible from the top again, and with a way to scroll/navigate way back in time. That's really the only reason to visit the frontpage for me (unless flash sales are on) and it's completely useless since the redesign.
I think they see NEWS as an added extra these days, and less important than pushing game sales adverts at you.

Really to my mind, they should have it in its current layout but underneath the banner/latest game releases at the top ... they are all news items really. As it is now, NEWS is the very last section of the main page to load ... and on my PC for browsing the web, that can take a long time to happen ... real pain in the ass much of the time.

You can currently scroll left and right on the timeline, though I guess it doesn't go back very far, and you want it to go back further. I guess if you don't come here all that regularly, it is a quick way to check what has been happening meanwhile, so they should improve that.

agree older code is less buggy, but older code is also more cryptic and uses outdated technology/design , which makes adding new stuff very hard to it , also with so many new things added throu the decades it just clogs down the system

like game engines fe fallouts Creation Engine , it is so old and nearly impossible to add anything to it ,it makes fallout 76 not only ugly but slow too, oh and it still has the bugs from fallout 4 or skyrim
it should have been thrown out years ago for a completely new one

It should have been thrown out and they should use unity instead because unity has EXACTLY the same features!

GOG need to back everything up ERASE the entire site and forums and start again from scratch!

Too much bloat everywhere with web 3.0.."optimized" for Chrome browser only, and those with 64gb RAM.
Ludicrous.

I never visit the front page. Only to grab the free games where they force you to go there.

Darvond: Gosh, it is as if they've been looking for someone to fix this problem for over a year now.

But on a different note, I do think they'd do well to pare back to Web 1.0 and NOTHING ELSE if they can't manage to hire a competent webdev who isn't afflicted by a curse of marketing.

There's some serious retro appeal in a website made out of nothing but raw code and frames. Like this.
I thought that I am the only one affected, hence I created a topic instead of addressing support. Glad if people can confirm so it gets a chance of getting attention at some point.

This site is awesome! I didn't think that the Web 0.9 was this nice if done properly. Thanks for sharing!

Indeed. The thing is, there's no shortcuts for the lazy, so you have to build it all yourself. But look at the end result; something to be proud of.

Well forums are another issue, and they kind of work well enough ... if a bit lacking in some areas and clunky in others. It's just old forum software from what I can tell ... better that than some new bloated thing.

What they need is to have their Website designed by a proper Web coder and not someone who likes to use WYSIWYG software, which is inherently full of unnecessary bloat ... no doubt making it complex as hell to do simple modifications or fix issues.

I guess the amount of money they are willing to spend on their site shows.
The front page is pretty symbolic of GOG as a whole nowadays...

A text editor is all you need!

Yep, and there are some pretty good ones out there for web design.

I use the RSS news feed instead. The front page is too bloated for me too since the last redesign. Unfortunately the RSS feed also is affected by the stupid 8 post limit and often is not even able to hold the news posts from a single day. This limit is completely artificially as older news posts are still available through an API, but that's not really user friendly.

Yes Like this one Programmers Notepad and notepad++

pnotepad is more like an IDE, notepad++ is Okay for editing existing code
