For research purposes (and a bit of fun to go along....), I'm looking for some more or less recent (starting from 2000) Arkanoid/Breakout clones which you enjoyed for their audiovisual aspects or for their specific gameplay.

On console, I have BreakQuest (a must-buy vor PSP and PS VITA owners, don't get the second episode "extra evolution" though as it's much less good)

On PC, I have Shatter and I noticed Grey Cubes recently.

So, if you have any suggestions in this genre.....

Ricochet Infinity

I have it on disc but I'm sure there are other ways to snag it. There is also evidently a huge online community so fan made levels are constantly being added.

EDIT: it really isn't that new. :P

Wizorb is not that bad with light RPG elements but frankly I was a bit disapointed by its ingame powerups. I've seen them so much better in many C64 games. Nevertheless I had some fun with the game and I did finish it so it was enjoyable otherwise I wouldn't bother
Yeah, Shatter and WizOrb are the only ones I'e played recently too...
Take a look at "Grey Cubes". I really liked the way how it introduced 3d elements and physics into 2d gameplay. Graphics are very abstract, but I found the gameplay very enjoyable.
Wizorb and Shatter for me, too.
Oh, I forgot about Break Quest. I enjoyed it back in the day and didn't even know that it was ported to consoles and that it got a sequel.
mmm, I suck at multi-quoting so, global reply.... :o)

Wizorb => yeah, I was sure I forgot one game ^o^ Played it a little bit a while ago....

Breakquest => IMO, the game fits more the psp format (perfect to play casually) than the original windows version.

Grey Cubes => Just saw I got refunded for Garry's Mod (too limited, I prefer toying in Unity) so I just bought it with the credits

Ricochet infinity => That looks like my dope right there ^o^ There is an Ipad port but nothing for Android :( Hopefully There are lenghty let's play videos on youtube, gonna check them all :o)

This, absolutely this. In fact I'm sure you can start from the first one, Xtreme. If you like Arkanoid and Breakout you'll love it. It's post 2000 as well.

(PS. Thanks for saving me a google search! I couldn't remember its name :P)
Shatter. Nice sound track, and it has a game mechanic where you can attract or repel objects by holding a button. Would be nice if it came to GOG.
WizOrb (which is a clone of an old snes game) is pretty much the best I've found.
One game not mentioned would be Reaxxion. It feels like quite a casual game (for some reason made me think of Peggle), but is basically an arkanoid clone. Of notable differences is your paddle is made of mercury, you can spawn a ball at will using up some mercury. When a block is broken drops of mercury will fall which you can catch.

If you have multiball going and is afraid of losing because your bat might've shrunk too much you can also absorb balls again.

Looks to be Steam only though.

Also semi-breakout (not ball and paddle) Rollers of the Realm is more like a pinball game, but when you get into fights having to hit soldiers on the field it still felt sort of breakout like to play.

And because people seem to ignore this one, an old breakout game called Breakline by Kalisto. It was a nuisance to get working, but back in the days of DOS it featured a breakout game with rounded or diagonal shaped tiles, slopes on the playfield and occasionally a round level where you went around and around rather than just back and forth at the bottom.

Ricochet was a fun game! I wish there was a chance that GOG could get the Reflexive games.
