I'm not that well versed in how most forums work, so I could use some help with this specific problem.
If I'm replying to a specific post in a topic it gets marked with [quote ] markers, but if I try to edit down the text between the markers I can't post my message.
So the post can get very long if you reply back and forth. How do you reply to someone without getting these super long posts?
Tried to look on the FAQ but could not find what I was looking for.

Deleting unneeded parts between the quote marks is excactly how it works.
Just make sure to keep the Structure intact - like beginning with "(quote_1)" - "1" being the actual number of the quoted post and closing on "(/quote)"
The "[" of quotes are replaced with "("in my example so it stays visible
