GameRager: Money laundering maybe?

lolinc: Well, to me, it just looks odd. I mean, how could Ragnorok be surprised: "This is shocking news to us." Wouldn't that be like CDProjekt Red was "shocked" to find out, the same time as the general public, that GOG.com was closed, and its employees hired by Valve Inc. . . as though these two tax-entities (CDProjekt Red & GOG.com) were worlds apart?

And there's scarcely mention of ESDF's presence anywhere.
Might be a while or never before we find out all the dodgy that seems to have come along with this 'title.' I'm just sad we didn't get a good Rune 2 game out of all of this.

If it wasn't clear before I meant to say the gog version on here; was the rune I played and highly recommend checking out as it is loads of fun especially if you like lizard eating mead drinking action.

fronzelneekburm: Didn't read the article, but let me guess: Did Bethesda go with their standard MO of bleeding a studio dry by setting impossible milestones and then refusing funds until that studio has no other options other than bankruptcy or getting bought up by Bethesda?

If that's the case, I can only shake my head in disbelief. It certainly wouldn't be the first time Bethesda pulled this little number. When will studios learn?
On which studios did they do this "standard MO"?
Afaik, there's a somewhat documented attempt of a hostile takeover on Human Head Studios while developing Prey 2 under contract.
It's also assumed they tried the same with inXile Entertainment while working on Hunted: The Demon's Forge. Though that one isn't documented at all and pretty much just wild accusations based on guesswork by gamers.

It couldn't have been the case for id Software, Arkane Studios or MachineGames, as they didn't worked for or were under contract by Bethesda / Zenimax before the acquisition.
It also didn't happen with the two biggest names (apart from id) they might have pulled in that way: Obsidian and Interplay.

So I'm really interested in some names, as I literally have no clue which ones you mean.

But I'm absolutely referring to the numbers they pulled on Arkane (setting milestones and withholding payments until Arkane had no choice than to be taken over by them) and Obsidian (withholding royalties). Then there was also this incident where they screwed over a Russian dev.

Whether they did these things to set the stage for a hostile takeover or if they just did it for the sake of being assholes is a matter of opinion, I guess. The point is that they're by no means strangers to dick moves.

Arkane was not under contract by Bethesda / Zenimax before they acquired them. After Dark Messiah they worked for Valve on Return to Ravenholm (cancelled), their own game The Crossing (failed to find a publisher funding it) and for EA on LMNO (cancelled). So they had to do assisting industry odd jobs (Call of Duty: World at War, Bioshock 2).

After that, they had the core idea for Dishonored and Bethesda / Zenimax straight up acquired them. At no point were they under contract by them working on it.

Yes, they didn't pay Obsidian a bonus because of 1 measly Metacritic point. You can see this however you want, but first we're talking about a bonus here, not half of their salary. Second, if you sign a multi-million contract, you have to accept stuff like that.

And yes, I know about the situation with MADia / Buka. I'm not gonna sugar-coat it - this sucks. But still, that was back in 2001.

What's more though, on neither of these examples do I see any indication for your accusation: bleeding a studio dry and setting it up to be bought up.
Bethesda's Motto = If you can't beat them, Buy them out.

and with bethsofts 9,999,999 QC's lawyer barristers and High court judges welp any dealings with them is like the MAFIA!

Bethsoft = Lawful EVIL

Ancient-Red-Dragon: That's not necessarily accurate. Sometimes EGS has a 1 year exclusivity deal, but other times, they have exclusivity deals that are less than 1 year.

idbeholdME: Didn't know that. Thought it was always a year.

idbeholdME: It was literally just the first one I clicked. I don't regularly check any internet news about gaming and have no idea what they are or aren't. I'm not gonna link multiple of them and you can just search for the news on any outlet you desire.
UPDATE: Human Head Studios shut down, now inside a shelf of the Xbox's division.

Todd Howard recommends machines with the new Microsoft Windows 10 for the ultimate gaming experience.
If anything it probably means the OG Prey 2016 might end up getting released.
