Is thread bumping the same as necroing? And, even if it was, what is the problem with bumping a thread in general if it is not gaining the desired answer or traction? Would it be better if the thread had no traction for several hours and then you create a new one, making duplicate topics? In that case, may as well delete threads after so much time if we are not allowed to comment on something because it was determined to be necro-ed:

On another note, if you do not want us to create multiple threads on the same topic, no matter how silly or self serving, then let us use old threads that the user thinks is relevant. Besides, if the user thinks you are ignoring them then why should they not be allowed to make a thread voicing their concern where their money and time are concerned.

Do the rules say not to make new threads about the same topic? I may have missed that.

kaboro: Forum rules are very simple to understand no matter how they are worded.
In plain English it means they can lock any thread they don't like, they can ban any user they don't like, or in even more simple terms, they can do whatever they want in the forums and we, the users have to comply "cuz its the rulez".
Its the same everywhere not only here, and its not only on gaming forums, its literally everywhere.
Glad there are still people like you that are noticing it and talking about it.

Darvond: 1) Necroposting is not the same as thread bumping, but one often leads to the other; this is typically controlled with forced archivals, thread closures after inactivity, and shooting any short post down with a shotgun, with the occasional mass cleanup of threads. (I'm from older world foruming where if you wanted to be a sugar kid, the IRC channel was over there.)

2) Hypothetically, yes. But it's more a matter of clutter than strict enforcement. If GOG actually had forum tools, they could merge all the offending threads into one and make it obvious. IE: [Posts merged from Topic 7.]

3) This is complicated. There's this thing called Godwin's Law; that I'll paraphrase in gist: Any discussion that goes on long enough will eventually derail to head towards darker waters. Many posters here lack basic self control, so many threads that originally would have carefully discussed politics in games (such as Metal Gear Solid saying War is Bad) would quickly get derailed into irrelevant discussions; often about real life, current events. That's where the problem lies.

I can't see why it is a problem if a game with politics in it gets viewed in current rl events and trends.

Darvond: It quickly devolves into the typically juvenile namecalling that would cause the threads to get locked; if not worse than simple namecalling.

Now I'm going to deviate a little and ask why this doesn't seem like a flash of the blindingly obvious.

Orkhepaj: Only if closed-minded people join the conversation, they bring their dogmatic approach and if you deny those you are labeled as troll and evil, then they start the name-calling etc. .
Just remove them from the forum, and we can have good fruitful conversations.
