That's probably because you've got too many games, especially too many new games.
My laptop can't run most games after 2009/10, so I don't have such problems.

Yeah, I have a crapton of updates, but if you go through them, you may find that many of them are not actual updates to game files but rather just internal installer changes.
I believe the way to go for this is gogrepo though. Should keep you all updated and neat and tidy.

Sometimes updates can be confusing on what has changed, but GOG has been improving lately. For one I'm glad they note down Internal Installer Updates too.

As for actual game updates, so far I don't have many outdated ones, less than a handful and from what some devs told me in email conversations, it's not GOG's fault.
