Based on the massively negative rep... guys, stop feeding the obvious troll.
While OP is trolling upgrading to an ultrawide VA panel was such a nice upgrade. I'm currently enjoying the pixel graphics Blackwell series on it
I'm not moving from 1080p for a long time yet.

Jon_Irenicus_PL: Hey guys. I am getting a new 2560x1440p, 165 hz, 27 inch, 1 ms monitor. I am so excited for it.
What? Not even measly 3840 x 2160 pixel (4K UHDTV) resolution when there are so much talks about 8K? No really, you must be joking.
avatar
Linko64: Not at all.

Most people still play 1080p, most people don't even own 4k TVs or monitors. Heck, most games don't even run that smooth at 4K. 1080p isn't dead by any means.

Jon_Irenicus_PL: the 20 and 30 series is out we now have enough power for higher resolutions
I have a 3080, I still use 1080p for most games, as I said earlier most don't run too well in 4K. We're still stepping away before 4k is the default.

How is making of your own GPU progressing? It must be nearly finished, just like world of 1080p gaming.

I'm guessing he's in talks with wish.com regarding logistics and sales right now.

I smell chum in the water... I know what that means! Stay away from those things with hooks! Fish are friends, no food!
Gamers need better performing monitors than larger screens.

Is it fair to say that at this point, 1080p gaming is basically dead?
Nope, not at all.

I have a RTX 3070 and some games literally are eating up 8GB of VRAM, not even maxed-out - i.e. Watch Dogs: Legion. Tried that out during a free weekend. If I tried to max it out at 1080p, it looks like it'll be around 9-10GB of VRAM usage.

Plus, at 1080p w/ a 3070, you're pretty much ensuring high framerates and/or you'll be able to do RTX On at 60fps or better.

I can run games maxed like RAGE 2 at 1080p here at 100-200fps. Witcher 3 also can run at a max of 150fps, all maxed-out at 1080p. All rasterized, not RTX.
I mean, i am way behind the curve, but even i am moving on from 1080p.

I think that at this point we (both as a society and as gamers) need to start moving on from 1080p because it has pretty much become obsolete

I don't mean to offend anyone that's still on 1080p but i consider that resolution pretty much dead.
Pretty much, 1080p is still the resolution dominating the Steam Survey:
https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/Steam-Hardware-Software-Survey-Welcome-to-Steam

So, no; 1080p is far from dead.

Base-line consoles for PS4 and XB1 still support 1080p; and I don't think everybody has a 4K TV (for console gaming); or a 1440p or 4K monitor (for PC gaming). And it's not like most have gotten their hands on a PS5 or X Box Series X either.

And I don't think most people have a RTX 3060, 3070, or 3080 anyways (or their AMD equivalents) - so I don't expect until either xx50 cards or xx60 cards in an Nvidia line really push 1440p card....eh, I don't see some abandoning 1080p yet.

I'd also guess most competitive online gamers are probably rocking high-end refresh rate monitors and sticking w/ 1080p to get some insane framerates so they have the competitive edge anyways.

idbeholdME: Obvious bait, but I will just say that anything above 1080p is still above average.

If anything, 1080p is dead only on larger than 24 inch monitors.
Still using max. 1080p on my 27inch monitors ;)

StingingVelvet: I have a 1440p monitor but it's also bigger than my old 1200p one, so I don't think it ends up looking much better honestly. More important thing by FAR in my opinion is adaptive sync and 144hz. That's a life changer.
Absolutely. I agree that things like A-Sync techniques (like G-Sync and Free-Sync) and also high refresh-rates are much more game-changing than a high-resolution.

Heck, even things like DLSS is game-changing for more of a big performance boost; especially if a RTX-supported game also supports DLSS.

Sure, high-res is nice and all - but are most going to spend say RTX 3090 to get 4K60fps maxed-out settings with RTX On and maybe also have to throw on DLSS too?

One-dimensional thinking. Resolution is not the only thing that matters, there's also refresh rate. There are tons of high refresh rate monitors still being marketed with 1080p res.

If you turn down a few settings you can get good fps

Yes but unless you are into competitive games like CSGO then 1440p is the way to go

1440p has 77% more PIXELS but 28% worse performance

So it's better

No offence but 1080p on 27inches probably looks horrendous

That's why i got 27 inch 1440p instead of 32 inch. 32 inch looks crap because the pixels are more spread out.
