Ancient-Red-Dragon: No it's not. I could think of a situation where it is not always legal for the code redeemer to redeem a GOG code.
For example, say the code redeemer hacked someone's else's GOG account after the owner of the account had purchased a gift code, but before the time when the account owner had distributed that gift code to its intended recipient, and then the hacker redeemed that gift code on a GOG account that they created.
That would be an example of an illegal redemption of a GOG code.
iBeeze: Well that escalated quickly :D
I guess I'll never redeem codes on GOG again because I can't be sure how they acquired their key (unless from close friends).
To be honest I have generalized anxiety disorder and worry about everything for hours, if I could I would just delete this stupid game from my library right now :D
Hello iBeeze,
Don't worry too much about this. Some people on these forums have too much free time and enjoy making things looking way worst than they actually are.
So for completeness, in 99,9999999% of the cases, redeeming a received key is perfectly fine. Moreover, the scenario proposed (which is close to being the only one leading to the redeemer doing an illegal act) by the previous poster is only illegal if you, as the redeemer, have hacked another account to get the key you redeemed. Anyway, the illegal part here lies way more in hacking another user account (which, for the sake of simplicity, I'll assume you did not do) to get the key and not in the redeeming.
So, long story short, you should really not worry about it. A lot of people have redeemed, from time to time, codes offered by other fellow GOGers and I'ld gladly bet that none of us has got his account banned for that.
