So, several time recently, having gone to download some installer or other, I noticed that the sys reqs state that the game works on Win 10 and 11; nothing earlier is listed.

And some of these games used to work on XP and Win 7.

Has support for XP and Win 7 actually been disabled? If so, I will be very disappointed.

Nota bene: while I can understand, if not be enthusiastic about, and not buy, games newly-released on GOG not working on early versions of Windows, I am pretty sure that some GOG games used to say that they were playable on earlier versions of Windows, but now only list Win 10 and 11.

I recently downloaded and am playing Elder Scrolls Oblivion on Win 7 and, after applying the unofficial patches and the animation fix, is working perfectly. And yet the store page says that it works on Win 10 and 11 and nothing earlier is listed.

So, what's actually going on here?

Not disabled, but no longer actively maintained. You will have to keep your own logs and monitor patches to see if games that formerly worked on these systems still continue to do so. It's foreseeable that in time, patches that allow these old games to run on Windows 11 prevent them from doing so on XP. Perhaps you would contribute to our efforts. https://www.gog.com/forum/general/does_it_run_on_win_7_thread/
