I really don't give a damn about the new games, I have steam for that and have GOG for the old games I can't find elsewhere or won't run on modern systems.

So is there a way to only see the good old games this site started with? I want to see what new things they added there, I don't know what I'd look for, it's never something specific. just looking to see what I can find, of many old games I don't even remember the name.
You can sort by release date (NOT date added) starting with the earliest. This way you can look at all the old games up to the point where you personally don't consider them old anymore.

Do you only want to use GOG for games you can't get on Steam? Steam is getting lots of old games that GOG has; if you're desperate to keep all your games in one place on Steam, you could probably exclusively shop there and just have patience for old games to show up.

Otherwise perhaps you can check each game page for the release date or google the name of the game and see when it was released.

And what is an old game? two years old? twenty? ten? which is the objective limit?

Well, anyway you can use the filter to sort by "oldest first" Probably the first two games shown should be Akalabeth and M.U.L.E

yup ctrl+w
This script can help with that:

https://github.com/ghorint2t/scripts/blob/master/goggamesdatagridview.user.js

Install it with a script plugin, such as Violentmonkey, then go to the page https://www.gog.com/games and click in the grid icon to the far right of the "<--| Filters" button. Once the script loads, you just need to sort/filter with what you need (I don't know if it supports ranges, tho).

It will not be 100% precise with the dates, but that's a problem on GOG and the devs/publishers' side, since they're the ones that add these release dates.

Also, a guy I know asked to support some months ago if using the script is ok, and they couldn't see any issues with using it, so it should be fine to use.

If you don't want to install a user script, there's a somewhat tolerable way of filtering by general ranges of release year (though, as with Ghorin's script, this is limited by whatever GOG or the publisher put as the release year). For example: games from before 2000, sorted by most recently released here (though you can change that). Details on how to tinker with that and another set of hidden catalogue search filters here.
Thanks for all the help, I just went through the older games and tossed everything I am somewhat interested in on my wish list to find it easier later and do the research on if the game is actually good.

The list is a mix of stuff I have played, but also things I haven't or am unsure of, some games I played at a friend's pace and can't remember the name of.
How old is old? All 'modern' games become 'old games', if you wait long enough.

Btw, unfortunately you can't buy games only Steam, only rent them temporarily.
