I'm the guy that's at the front desk from 2300-0700 to open the door for guests who are too drunk to use their keycards on the reader. And to put out the coffee at 6. And, well, Netflix doesn't watch itself...
It was a 3-star hotel, which was actually quite decent by my standards back then. (This was about 10 years ago, before I began insisting on booking 5-star hotels only.) I wouldn't call it a motel or a hostel. Still they locked the door at night. Which, come to think of it, neither motels nor hostels should do either.
Anyway, it made for a good travel story if anything. These days, though, I stay at much better hotels so it hasn't been an issue. During my trip this year I stayed in Rome, Vienna, Teplice, and Prague, and all of the hotels were open 24/7 so I was happy.
