If you like AoE you'll love the best of the franchise: Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds. ;)
The Risen games are also pretty decent.
You may also enjoy something like Dragon's Dogma.

Celton88: You really want to push the processing and graphics limits of your new rig?

One game

Three letters

FTL
Is this the game you are referring too?

I have the game in my game list, but i have not played it yet. I was thinking that because i have played Galciv3 and the x2, x3 series so much, it would feel like a step backwards playing FTL?
Grey Goo is a pretty good modern RTS. Your laptop should be able to run it.
Get a desktop.

Ah, so I was be facetious. The game is both excellent and can be played on a low-spec machine. GalCiv games are very different than FTL, so it's a little like comparing apples to oranges. FTL is a roguelike, meaning, amongst other things, that you die a lot as you learn the game. You also only control a single ship and a handful of crew, whereas with GalCiv you control, well, a civilization.

FTL is one of my top games that have come out in the past 10 years, but ymmv.

Have you tried Tharsis? If so, what did you think of it?

I've been trying to get the gist of this thing but am obviously missing something. And of course no manual. I guess it's kinda, sorta, maybe a little, like FTL.
