It also has playtime sync, cloud saves, and multiplayer support.

Yep, I play on Linux and unlike all the other Linux users, I keep downloading games from GOG. As you would know, there's no Galaxy on Linux, but Heroic is on Linux. Tracks playtimes and does the achievements thing, makes weird logins for third party features like Bethesda accounts for Doom mods just work when normally they wouldn't.

But it's true that it's yet another Electron app...

Is that a bad thing? Googled that is uses Chromium and node.js? Is it slow, resource hungry, affiliated with Elon...?

Yes

Okay sure. It's slow and resource hungry. Of course IIRC each Electron app has its own separate Chromium instance, so each Electron app is also taking up space when I think they could just rely on one central Chrome/Chromium instance. Dunno about the logistics of that though.
