bhrigu: This one laptop caught my eye:
ASUS TUF FX505DY
-15.6" display (freesync, IPS)
- Ryzen 5 - 3550H
- 8 GB RAM
- 1 TB HDD
- Radeon RX 560X 4GB graphics card

now the apparent cons are :
1. old gen graphics card (but this is not supposed be a gaming machine, primarilly)
2. Only HDD preinstalled . I will install an NVME SSD myself.
3. Modest amount of RAM. I will probably add another 8 GB. That should be enough for a Linux system.

The laptop will cost around 55K INR (approx. $800). SSD, RAM would cost extra.

What do you people think of it?
Does anyone know if there are any driver problems with this hardware?
Someone in reviews mentioned problems with ubuntu missing graphics drivers!
Late to the party, but no one sugested thinkpads with amd. I was researching laptop for me and for wery long time thinkpad A485 was on short list because:
- silent
- external battery
- easy access to components
- rugged
- all essential ports
- integrated radeon allows some light gaming

there was option of A285 but ultimately I went with....surface pro 6 i5 - for me holly grail of mobile devices is passive cooling (and 3:2 screen ratio is very close to 4:3 for old games). Asus you picked will be very hot and loud
Posting after a long time, but still looking out for a laptop.
So this new one caught my eye.
ACER Nitro 5 (2019) with AMD Ryzen
It has
Ryzen 3550h
RX560x with 4GB graphics memory
8GB RAM
1X 2.5" bay and 2X M.2 SSD slots (this is a big selling point for me)
15.6" FHD Display
Has most of the ports I would need
The 4 cell battery, according to reviews, is pretty good

SO if anyone has experience with this laptop, or the previous gen one, I am interested to know how is the Linux compatibility of the hardware?
I am a bit concerned as ACER apparently uses a software called Nitrosense for fan control and similar stuff. Also there is fancy backlighting and things. So will there be any major problem if I use Linux as the main OS on the laptop?

Thanks in advance for your help and responses.
