Hi Everyone!

For some time, I have plan to make translation (Polish language) of either Star General, Missionforce: Cyberstorm or M.A.X. (first one, under DOS). Unfortunately for me, I can't figure out how to get to the in-game text and edit it/swap it.

So far my only experience was editing some simple formats, like xml or srt (so only notepad++ required) or by using tool provided by developer (who was later implementing my work in the game). This is not the case for those games.

If needed, I can provide on PM any source materials, like file structures(screenshot of the folder content) or anything else (just PM me).

I would be very grateful for working solution, which I could understand and use to translate the game(s).

And as a reward for working solution, I'm offering a gift for any GOG game(s) on value 9$ max (20$ if solution for two games is provided - I guess it may be too hard/impossible for at least one of mentioned game to find a solution).

I've decided to do it now, as we have some bigger sale and we have more options to include more goodies for lower price (which means of course more games to be put in that mentioned limit).

P.S. I know about MAX Reloaded, and that it supports fan translations, but I admit that I would prefer to translate
original first.

Star General:
The game texts are in SHAPES/GBATTLE.TXT. And some texts in UNITDATA.TXT have to be translated.
The menu texts seem to be in the exe file.

For the other games I would suggest to download the german patches here & extract the installers
with innoextract. Then you should see the files that have to be translated.

Star General looks very promising at the moment, do you have knowledge if there is a way I can edit those text portions "hidden" in the exe file? I've tried to unzip it, I see there a couple of files, including ".text" one. But no matter if I try to open it with hex editor or with notepad++, I don't see there text, only strings of weird signs

Here is an example how to work with the exe.

I just run a quick check on the exe, but it contains texts (see attached image).

MAXINT.MVE is the intro cutscene.

MAXRUN.EXE contains strings, too (but I have no clue if they are used in the game).

Ok, I've made some tests to those simpler files in MAX and Star General and it works! WIthout Polish letters, but I was able to enter Polish text and make it visible in the game.

I admit that I'm for now lost with translation of parts in exe file - tried it on Star General with recommended program (IDA), but it seems like it throws at me some questions I don't understand, so I guess I will have to figure it out on my own.

Either way - you helped me a lot, so I think it's time to grant you a reward. Thank you! I'm sending PM
