GamezRanker: Well seeing as the avatars are a wee bit small, 2MB seems like enough. Now if forum avatar size were a bit bigger....
Even the actual avatars themselves are pretty big. Here's an El Defaulto.

I usually use ones a bit smaller(closer to the size of the avatars next to people's posts).....that way I can save on space and fit my images more easily into the limit.
