Darkest Dungeon, Sunless Sea...
The Crimson Court or the Unterzee?
If you're just looking for something to dip your toes in, Darkest Dungeon is fine. The art is great, and if you only play for a few hours you won't run into the staggering amount of not-fun that the game contains. Once you get 5-10 hours in, the pattern gets really obvious but during the learning curve it's pretty great.

Of course, that's subject to taste. If you've played the base game a while and enjoyed it, then you'll also like the DLC. It's more of the same, which will be as good or bad as the base game was for you =)

Sunless Sea is a much more fun game to get all the way through.
Unless I'm mistaken, Sunless Sea + expansion(DLC) is the complete and final version of the game. For Darkest Dungeon there's a new expansion(DLC) coming in 2 weeks, "The Color of Madness".

I played Darkest Dungeon for about 30 hours, and then I heard about the new expansion, and it completely sapped all my will to continue playing. However now that I mentioned it, I'm kinda itching to continue.

Are these 2 weeks already confirmed?

What? :o Why? :o I got DD 3 months ago (both base and both expansions) and so far I played only base (mostly Darkest mode, 126 in-game weeks) - it is SO good alone.

Actually, I don't know if something changed in the meantime, but last I heard it was to be released around June 20th.

I usually like to play final versions of my games. I hate it when I play a game, I build my characters, and then a patch is released that nerfs my builds. All of a sudden those artifacts, that I've been hunting for throughout my game, become useless, while the items I've been selling from the start become invaluable. It has more to do with my past experiences, than it does with Darkest Dungeon in particular. Though we shouldn't forget, that when the Crimson Court came out, the patch for the main game did nerf some items to accommodate the new items introduced by the expansion.

EDIT: I searched around and the date I'm finding is June 19th, which is exactly one year after Crimson Court(June 19th 2017). We'll see if they manage to hit the deadline.

Yes, I've heard about these "nerfs" but since that time all went again to balance (I think). Also this time, new DLC was mostly new mechanics and new location and most new items was related to these (for example: you could play the base game with DLC but do not use DLC content at all unless you go to new location on map).

I wasn't trying to decide. I was actually playing back and forth between the two games. And I thought it made a lovely little rhyme.

Okay that's a pretty solid little ditty there.
